The Citarthran Vyhin Nor Sanance

This is the first GOOD region that I've ever made. Now that I'm more familiar with the game, I have decided to make an awesome region. I will make the entire region as realistic as possible. The map I'm using is from the MEX. It's Grenoble - the Real One by bizarboy. It was too small for me so I resized the grayscale heightmap to make a 32 x 32 km region. When I imported the heightmap, it took 43 Minutes  to import the map. On a Pentium 4, 2 GHz processor. Here's the region:

EDIT: I don't have the desert terrain anymore. I'm back to normal terrain.

/idealbb/files/TheVyhinNorSanance.JPG

I will be using the following mods:

-Transit Supermod V2.0, Perfect Version with 10x capacity and 10x speed (The best mod, in my opinion)<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif>

-Teirusu's Snowcapped Desert Terrain (I deleted this one soon after I started)

-Teirusu's Realistic Water

-Zero Bridge Height

-4 Extra terrain tools (They're in the plugins folder, but I didn't use them, I used a heightmap for the terrain)

And I will be using NO cheats at all to make this region.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif>

Please post your comments! And tell me how the region looks.

Well, I love the Grenoble terrain, but I think it looks hidious with desert terrain. Get rid of that and this could turn out awsome!

At least forest the region. I agree with Tim, it doesn't look that good with the desert terrain, but add some trees and you may be alright.

I hope your city is as complex as the name of the region.

Here is the region so far, with 4 cities, and population of 50,244:
    /idealbb/files/Vyhin2.JPG
The first city in my region was Akraishon, which is the second worst. It has dirty industry, and is on a small map, so pollution spreads. It doesn't look realistic now, but i'm going to fix it eventually. Now the city is taking all I-D demand out of my better cities, so they can have I-M. A screenshot of Akraishon, pop: 26,087
    /idealbb/files/akraishon1.JPG

The next city is the best so far, Endanahi. It has a population of 19,741. It's mostly middle class, low density except fot the medium density dowtown area in the center of the map. There are 2 highways, and I haven't named them yet because I haven't decided where they will lead. I make about 3,300 a month with my budjet. I have full education, exept for a university, no police, 2 fire stations, and no hospitals. The city is mostly suburbs. A screenshot:

    /idealbb/files/endanahi12.jpg

Avera Kachi, on a large map is the smallest city, at population at 4,392. I havn't played this one too much, the demand is lower here than in Endanahi for some reason. A screenshot:

    /idealbb/files/Averakachi1.JPG

The last city, Heck, isn't really a city. It's the regional dump/power plant. I thought it would be more realistic to export all garbage here and sell power from here because in real cities there aren't landfills and power plants in every city. I won't take a screenshot because it's a waste of space here. All that's there now are 4 coal plants, a landfill, and 1 house.

Please post your comments and suggestions!<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif>

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll delete the desert terrain mod and see how it looks. Also, I will add trees before I found and play each city. It would take hours to go in and forest all of the cities at once.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/15.gif>

I have deleted the desert terrain and snowcap mod, and added trees to a few cites surrounding the ones I founded already. Now it looks like this:
    /idealbb/files/vyhin3.JPG
I couldn't add trees to Avera Kachi, because that would involve using the God mode cheat and I said I wouldn't use cheats. After I build up that city, it shouldn't be as noticeable.

Avera Kachi has grown! It now is at a poulation of 12,911. There are about 500 low income residents, 10,000 middle income residents, and 2,500 high income. The city has expanded to about twice the size it was before, with some added highways. The city has almost full education, full health coverage, and I still am making $6,000 a month! The treasury has about $7,000,000 in it. <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif>And all without cheating. Here's a pic of the West Side:
    /idealbb/files/Avera2.JPG

And the East side of the city:

    /idealbb/files/Avera3.JPG

I'll probably post another update today. Any comments would be helpful!

Thanks for the compliments, alkaola and dig1tal. And alkaola, I got the desert mod at www.teirusu.net

As promised, I have another update.
Avera Kachi has doubled in size and poulation. Poulation is 45,695. I built all of the highways, added police coverage, and built the downtown area. The year is 209 I think. Here's the whole city:
    /idealbb/files/Avera

Sadly, the highway isn't used very much. <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/15.gif> Most of the people here live near to where they where they work, so they don't need the highway. Hopefully it will get used more. Also, the first highrises have been built in downtown. There's the blue building in the center of the pic, and a grey one to the left, across the highway.

The city is doing quite well, with about 16,500 low wealth, 25,000 mid wealth, and 6,500 high wealth people. This is good for me, I've never had such a high proporion of high wealth. The average income for the populace is about $72,000/year.

Many of the suburbs are starting to look more realistic as the trees I added by the highway grow in, and most of the houses are mid wealth.

    /idealbb/files/Avera7.JPG

Many of the city's wealthiest people live in this district (below). If you look, you can see the mayor's house here, too.

    /idealbb/files/Avera81.JPG

I find the city budget to be amazing. I'm making more money in a city this size then I used to make in a city of 100,000. Maybe it's because I have no mass transit, but I have highways, and I havn't built highways in my previous large cities.

    /idealbb/files/Avera91.JPG

And that's about it. If you can tell me how to make my city more realistic, or have any comments, please tell me! And also if anyone can tell me what I need to type in my sig to make a link to this page appear in my sig.

Looks nice so far. If you want a tip on realism:

Cities usually are centred near a water source for example, rivers. I know you probably didn't do this to be different, but still... Most cities which are near rivers usually sit on their banks or really close to them. Some examples? Melbourne, Brisbane (both here in Australia). Of course, There are some quite spectacular exceptions to the rule though. Several inland towns though aren't. It's also usually better to place your centre near the centre of the map if it's a landlocked map.

Oh and to do a link to your signature, you just use standard HTML to do it. If you don't know how to do that, don't worry; Just use what's in bold below:

    There is no spoon!
I'm proud to be an American.
    ===============
    Hope that helps.

    Thanks the_Dark_Child, cammo2003, and MTLT_17.

-cammo2003 - Avera Kachi is probably going to be the only big city in my region that's landlocked, and it won't even be my biggest city. My largest cities will be on the river that runs through the region. Also, the center of Avera Kachi is already dead center on the map, and there won't be any high density outside the highway loop (which you won't see until my next update). And thanks for telling me how to put the link in my signature, it worked.

-MTLT_17 - It isn't likely that my surplus will ever go away completly. I have never been in the red in any of my good cities.

    I'll post another update today.

    How did this happen!?!?!?!?
    /idealbb/files/AAAA.JPG

I alt-tabbed out of SC4, and one of my cities got deleted!. Thankfully, it wasn't an established city. Also I made a copy of the region before this happened, so I can use import city to get it back.

    Avera Kachi Population at 100,931!
    /idealbb/files/Avera15.JPG

Avera Kachi has become a large city. There are about 22,000 low wealth, 65,000 mid wealth, and 14,000 high wealth residents in the city. The average education is 170, life expectancy is 82, and average income is $72,000. The city now has it's own major league stadium, international airport, and some more highrises.

This is a pic of downtown, with the first commercial highrise.

    /idealbb/files/Avera11.JPG

    Here's the airport:

Had to start a new post, it wouldn't insert any more pics.

    Here's the major league stadium;
    /idealbb/files/Avera122.JPG

And the budget, which is making even more money.

    /idealbb/files/Avera14.JPG

Also, I started a new city, Farshiri, which is West of Avera Kachi.

    /idealbb/files/Farshiri1.JPG

I will not post a pic of the region yet because it hasn't changed that much. The region pop is about 152,000.

Tomorrow I hope to include a street map of Avera Kachi with my update.

Please post any comments or suggestions on how I can make my cities more realistic. Thanks.

Here's the street map of Avera Kachi:

    /idealbb/files/averaj.jpg

    Red - Highways

    Light Blue- Avenues

    Blue- Roads

    Black - Streets

    Yellow - Railroad

I made this by taking a screenshot of the traffic data view, pasting into paint, and going over the roads with the colors.

From now on I plan to update this thread every day unless

    1. I'm too busy

    2. I have nothing to post

    3. Problems with the computer

    I will be updating today.

Today I made a new city, Endoria. It is Southeast of Avera Kachi with a populaton of about 8,000. Here's a pic of the residential area:
    /idealbb/files/Endoria1.JPG

And here's a pic of the commercial/industrial area that provides the jobs.

    /idealbb/files/Endoria2.JPG

I didn't get to do too much with my cities today because my entire region is getting messed up. The R-$ and R-$$ demands are both +6000, but R-$$$ buildings keep popping up. Then they get abandoned because supposedly there are no jobs. And I bulldoze the abandoned buildings and they grow back. Again. And again. And again. Also I tried to just provide more jobs but I'm having problems with that. The demand for CS-$ and CS-$$ is once again +6000. The demand for all other commerce is flat or negative. My I-D demand is -6000 in all cities, I-M demand and I-H demand were +6000 each and now they are almost flat. I can't even play Avera Kachi anymore because the suburbs abandon and look like crap.My taxes are 7% for all C, 14% for I-D, 8% I-m and 4% I-H.

Can someone please help me get my demand back up?

-Dig1tal, the residential near downtown is already zoned as dense, it just hasn't developed dense buildings yet. Also, I did go to your region already before. Your farms look good, I hope I can make mine more like that when I finish Farshiri.

I will update later today, I think I can solve my demand problem by building CS-$ in Farshiri and using the make historical option to keep it there. I'll do the same thing in Avera Kachi with CS-$$ to raise R-$$$ demand (hopefully).

Today I added a CS-$ area to Farshiri. It provides about 4,500 jobs and lowered that CS-$ demand down to +2000. Here's a pic:
    /idealbb/files/Farshiri2.JPG

I had to make all of those buildings historical so CS-$$ wouldn't build over them. I thought it was odd that I have historic flea markets now.

I conducted massive reconstruction on Avera Kachi's Downtown. I also eliminated the demand problems I had before. Here's downtown before reconstruction. Notice the high amount of marshall Printing buildings.

    /idealbb/files/Avera161.JPG

I used the false demand trick where you bulldoze small CO-$$$ buildings while the came is paused to create false demand and create stage 7 or 8 buildings.

Then I built the Colossus of Hirachi in the downtown area.

    /idealbb/files/Avera20.JPG

Immediatly after this was built, this occurred.

    /idealbb/files/Avera17.JPG

The collossal mayor statue must be a demand cap buster for R-$$, raising the cap above 80,000.

    Here is downtown after reconstruction:

    /idealbb/files/Avera19.JPG

    Lots of dense R-$$ buildings.

And here is a zoomed out pic of the entire city, now at a populaton of 141,914.<ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/16.gif>

    /idealbb/files/Avera18.JPG

Also I worked on making Akraishon fit in with Avera Kachi as a suburb. I removed all I-D, and started making it low density. My regional demand for I-D is -6000, so I will not have any I-D (hopefully). Here's a pic.

    /idealbb/files/Akraishon2.JPG

Compare it to the first pic of the city and see how much it has changed. It isn't finished, but I'll probably finish it tomorrow.

Please tell me what you think so far! <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif>

By the way, check out the update. There's about 2x as many skyscrapers. And there will be more because I plan to have 6 or 7 large cities in the region.
