Monorail vs. BTM?

Hello,

I couldn't find a definitive answer on this, but what is the difference between regular monorail and the bullet train mod?  Are the changes made by BTM simply aesthetic?

I've read the BTM FAQ, but it simply states that BTM is better, but it is unclear to me if it is faster than the regular monorail.

Please let me know.

    Thanks so much for the quick response.

    I already had Sim Z's plugin installed in NAM.  Would the Sim Z plugin make monorail faster on its own or does the plugin make bullet trains much faster than traditional monorails.

    My problem with BTM is that the track cannot slope, so I am having problems laying out the track.

    A couple points...

    The creator of the z-simulator made an additional simulator to be used with the BTM (Simulator_Z_BTM). If you have the one that came with NAM, that's not the one. Try the one attached to this post...

    Also, you may be trying to build the tracks in an area that won't allow the required slope changes. The BTM was created to be a little less slope-tolerant to be more realistic.

    Copied from the Bullet Train FAQ section...

    Why can't I drag the BTM over hilly terrain?

    A slope mod is included witht the BTM, which will automatically give the mod a realistic slope when dragged over uneven terrain.  In the more hilly or mountainous areas, the BTM may not drag because the slope of the terrain is too great for a bullet train network.  An easy fix to this is to level out some of the terrain around your bullet train network or make a tunnel.  If you drag the BTM from one side of the hilly section to the other, you may get lucky as the mod may automatically cut a properly sloped section through the terrain.  The slope has to be smooth...quote>

    To be just a little more specific, the standard monorail speed is 250 kph, while the BTM speed is 400 kph. These are using the standard and modified versions of Simulator Z, respectively.

    Where can I find the plugin for the Slope Mod so that I can remove it.  I have attached a listing of the files in my BTM Mod folder, but I don't know which one is the Slope Mod.

    Almax881: The slope mod is worked into the main BTM file (in your case the file named Bullet Train Mod V1). It is integrated with the mod to allow you to create a realistic grade when you drag the network through hilly or rough terrain.

    The slope mod may be more restrictive than the one Maxis set for the monorail, but it isn't that restrictive compared to other slope mods. It does take some getting used to, so I'd suggest playing around with various slope variations until you get a feel for it.
