Creating Andrewtropia

Oh god!! It's another CJ from ac94! WRONG!!!

After many failed attepts at making CJs, I started planning a CJ that would be strong enough to last for years..... that CJ ain't here yet! This is going to be a MJ, which is short for Mini Journal.

For anyone who was around to see the first CJ I made called "Andrewtropia".... this is about the same city..... but one problem. It's not done!!!

So you might all be asking, "Why on earth is he going to show a Journal about an empty city???" I'll tell you why. I want the help from this sites best to help me build this metropolis of mine into the best city it can be. Suggestions are the blood of this MJ.

So enough of all this text and let me show you pics of what Andrewtropia is so far:

DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012410-2.jpg

First, here's an overview of what has been devoloped. Yes this tile is flat... the city is flat... GET USED TO IT!!

DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012410-1.jpg

What would a metropolis be without a CBD...... or an incomplete one. So many highrises from so many different styles.... but that's what ATropia is about. Mixing many building styles into one city.

DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012410459.jpg

The World Trade Center Twin Towers of Andrewtropolis (country) built as a replica of those that stood over NYC before the attacks of 9/11/01. The NWTC (Freedom Tower Complex) is soon to be constructed right next to it.

DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012410458.jpg

What would a super-city be like without a 5-star Waterfront Hotel to give our rich vacationers a place to be with a great view, the best food, and all that jazz 5-star hotels give.

DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012410462.jpg

You didn't think ATropia was all grid, did you? Nooo.... it's just mostly grid.

DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012410460.jpg

What's that? It's our central 20-lane highway system going through the center of the city. Now to make this perfect... I'm going to need RHW pros.. "Oh Haljackey!"

DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012410463.jpg

There's your good old-fashion construction sites near a... what the!! AT has a roundabout!! That's something that was not there over a year ago in the old ATropia?

Well, that's all my pics for now! Like I said, I need people to give suggestions on how to make this city better... liek:

Move ______ to ______.

or

Get rid of _______.

or even

What is wrong with you!!! Don't you know how to plop a good city!!??

Give tips and suggestions to help this city.

Also if you are curious about what I'm planning for the future, help us (me and others22.gif) build up a huge CJ Union Project that will hit ST soon.... The Gia Project!!..... or just ask about it19.gif.

I hope this MJ doesn't die to quickly after all that typing I just did.49.gif

Thanks for your time and support,

-ac94-

I think having the 20 lane highway directly end into a 2 lane road is a bit odd, I would suggest having at least an avenue or something larger there, but I feel it's a bit early to really judge much of it, I do like the variety of skyscrapers so far.

well....let me say this before anything...Your skyscraper choice and positioning is awesome....I can't find much to tell you to do different...I would agree with Zezug that you might want to have something wider for the rwh to enter....Maybe a avenue would do just fine....It truly does look amazing so far...

Sincerely,

Duke of York

Your choice in downtown skyscrapers is very appeasing, and I wonder how the city will look like once finished, mid rises and housing and all. Don't forget the railways!

Great start so far. That tile has a LOT of potential if you work at it.

    Mini Update!

I took all of your advice about the avenues on the coast. Here:

    DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012410550.jpg

However we now have a problem! This end of the highway is no longer transit-enabled! If anyone can help with this, give your suggestions.

    (Sorry about the grid)

i think that the terminus of the RHW would be a lot of other RHW pieces going to different directions.

Replies (Pretend there is a fancy banner here)

Zezug: Thanks for being the first comment, and the road was changed to an avenue.

Duke of York: Thanks, I do take way too long to put skyscrapers in. I always want them perfect. Road is now avenue.

Archean: Thanks for the nice comments and don't worry, the rails are coming soon. Industrial and commercial.

Zezug (again): Thanks, the problem is fixed.... mostly.

Victor Valdes: Hey Vic, thanks for the comment. RHW problem fixed.

Jacqulina: Thanks for the nice (as usual) comment Jackey.... Now all we need is Schul, and this MJ party will be on!

TmiguelT: You've guessed correctly.... but just wait for how they end up.

Hey guys, we got a new update.... so soon? I don't know, people just don't like commenting on MJs (CJs) I guess. Oh well! On to the pics:

    2.jpg

We've got a new overview of the city so far. What do you guys think? Please compare with the first pic.

    1.jpg

What do ya know..... Zezug's idea worked. Well please enjoy the RHW. Now all we need is Haljackey to tell me how to fill in the surrounding areas of the RHW to make it look decent.

    4.jpg

Here's a current shot of the back of the city. I made it because, you guys can't help this city become the Kingdom of Awesomeness(TM) unless you guys see EVERY side of this city.

    3.jpg

What's this???? Development on the other side of the city????? Looks like the city is growing well...... for now.

Well, that's the update. Once again, please give feedback and tell your friends in the Chatroom to GET IN HERE RIGHT NOW!!!!!32.gif32.gif..... and please comment on my humble MJ.

Thanks for your time and support,

The CBD is a little bit compacted for my tastes but nice nonetheless.

as for the RHW- do you have the latest version? if you do there are many ways you could make that look way better than it does, using the MIS system. im sure haljackey could provide some creative solutions rather than just a dead end....

anyway it is nice so far, keep up the good work.

More advice on your CJ (MJ) style of updating. Since you're currently building your city out slowly and showing a lot of updates, the best bet to have loyal viewers that keep coming back is to make up your updates ENTIRELY of up close shots of only the finished parts of your downtown. Seeing that the city ends abruptly takes away the appeal. But seeing the parts that are already filled in. If I was seeing close ups of say just a few buildings or of the avenues with towers on either side would make me want to come back, no doubt.

Hope you take this to heart, would love to see some close ups of the finished inner-city areas. ^_^

    All the best.

Looks pretty good, though I agree that highway needs a better transition, presumably a large interchange or a tunnel. keep working on it, its coming along nicely. 1.gif

omg...i hope this Cj never ends....I'm really liking this....now for my advice....i wanna see realism in that there be mid-rises surrounding your CBD, cuz it looks rather akward with just tall skyscrapers. But this definitely will be my inspiration for making my downtown 4.gif

Things are looking very nice so far. I have two small tidbits of advice:

    1. Don't put anymore skyscrapers over 40 stories. That downtown is gigantic, and if it gets any bigger it will become unrealistic. Start having the building height slope down now. A downtown that size will need a lot of mid-rises to make it look decent, and even more suburbs. Be prepared!

    2. In my opinion, the 20-lane highway going into the avenue would be a nightmare to drive along. It's one, huge intersection that would have way to many cars. Try having have the lanes split to the left and the other half to the right, and then have them split further, so you eventually have four possible exits (Per direction) a driver could use. This would ease the madness on the exits.

Everything else looks nice. Good luck!

617squad: It can't be as bad as what the first Andrewtropia looked like... *shiver*

Jman47: The CBD is compact because it needs to support a city of over 20 million! And about the dead end.... look what I made from it.

Goldeneye14: TRYRY!!! You know I'm the guy that comes up with the good ideas! And about the project, I'm getting to it... DON'T RUSH ME!!!

Jacqulina: Thanks again for the nice comment Jackey.

    Twenty20: Thanks for the comment.

Archean: Thanks for th comment.... I slowly taking your advice, there are 2 somewhat-closeup shots in this update.

Blue Sinjid: You ain't seen nothing yet!!!

SimHoTToDDy: Yesssss.... bow before my capitalit idols! mwhahahaha!!!

    Toki.s: Thanks for the comment.

Victor Valdes: Thanks for the comment Vic.... here's your new update!

Jacqulina: Thanks again, again for anther nice comment.

Petrovar Ambassador: Don't worry, as long as this city needs building... this journal will not end!

Jrhnemo: Here are both of my replies:

    1. This city is based on another planet about 1 thousand years in the future! This city will be realistic to an extent. Also, that downtown is small!!! Look at the region shot of the full city size and you will see!

    2. I made a 12 lane highway intersection on the other side. If that's not what your talking about..... take it anyway!

Now after those 13 replies, it's time to put some of your advice into this 2nd Update! Let's GO!!!

    DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012413-4.jpg

How's this for a highway intersection!!?? This beast took forever to build and after finishing it the first time, I had a crash!! Good thing I saved it 3/4 of the way and quickly re-finished it!

    DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012413-2.jpg

A closer view at the center. (Note: There will be stuff inside the empty spots.)

    DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012413127.jpg

The mouth of the 20 lane highway, it's still under construction on what to do with the other 14 lanes though!!!

    DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012413-3.jpg

As requested, a close-up of the Andrewtropolis-American WFC. This is a piece of the trade relationship between the country of Andrewtropolis and the States!

    DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012413128.jpg

Right next to it, the Andrewtropolis-Hong Kong WFC. Also, just a piece of the trade!

    DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012413-1.jpg

A random shot of the city.

    DowntownAndrewtropia-Jan30012413129.jpg

Another random shot of the city.

    Andrewtropia-1241305958.jpg

And finally, the total region area of the Andrewtropian Metropolitan Area. A region of 5x3 LARGE tiles! I think that CBD can be a "little bit" (10 times!!!!) bigger... am I right?3.gif2.gif

Well, I hope you all enjoyed this 2nd Update of Andrewtropia... I mean the Kingdom of Awesomeness(TM)

Thanks for your time and support,

    -ac94-

EDIT: I just found out that the region shot was taken before I made the highway! Should be fixed tomorrow.

I'll be honest with you: I'm not a big fan of the skyscraper forest: the look is rather unrealistic and it just looks like an unpleasant place to live. Plus, only using one-tile-wide roads is going to wreak havoc with the commute times (unless most of those buildings are just eye candy landmarks).

Why not spread out the district with some parks? Why not make it a pleasant place to live? Some greenery and wider avenues would really help make it a much more attractive place not just to see, but for your sims to live, too.

At the same time, you really don't have to listen to me: I'm just a mediocre SC4 player anyways9.gif.
