Hi I have been playing SimCity4 for a few years now, and I am trying to build a seaport for the first time. No matter what I do the game does not seem to let me place one. Besides being on a shore what else is needed to place a seaport? Thanks

Mainly you need a fairly straight shoreline, aligned with the grid, with a reasonable shoreline elevation.  Of course the land tile markings on the seaport need to be on land.

It always helps to go into god mode and use the soften tool on the shore where you plan to build the seaport.

Is there a minimum water depth for the ships to travel or will it be used as long as there is SOME water?

I don't think the depth of the water matters, as long as the tiles are classified "water tiles". Still, you might want a respectable depth after all, to make it look somewhat realistic.

I don't remember how the footprint for the Maxis seaport looks, but keep in mind that the entire base (width x depth: 4x3?) has to consist of land tiles only, and similar to the part that goes into the water; water tiles only. Any stub of the opposite will prevent you of placing your seaport. This applies even if the footprint may indicate that only one land tile (red) and one water tile (blue) is needed.

There are MANY tutorials on building seaports.. I suggest looking in the OMNIBUS (at top of page) but they also appear on Youtube and on other web sites...
