Simcity 4 Delux Crashings

 Hi

I am sorry to post up yet another thread about crashes but in all the ones i have seen the game has crashed to the desktop. Which is not the case with me

When i load up sim city 4 delux all is well i go into a region and start playing. it will run fine for perhaps 5 or 10 mins after which if i do a task such as placing down a zone, lowering terrain or something it will crash. What happens is firstly everything bar the music stops. then the music will make that weird sound like it is repeating a very small segment over and over making it just like a hammering.... then after a few moments the music will come back on and i can move my mouse. However the game is frozen and i cannot quit at all. ctrl alt del does nothing nor does alt F4.

I only have 1 proccecer so that isnt it and i tried changing the priority of it because someone suggested that would work aswell but to no avail. I also did a massive clean up of my computer very very well but its still the same. Im running on XP and have been able to use it in the past. i only re installed it today and have been having problems all day.

You didn't mention if you had installed the game update patch?

i installed A patch... if its the right one or not im not sure...

could you tell me which one you mean. Also i re installed since the first time. so i dont have the patch anymore.

Where could i get it?

There is only one update patch for the game itself, SKU # [depending on the region of your game].  It is available at simcity.ea.com.

If you want nightlights for custom content, there is a update for BAT.

no installed the patch still the same problem.

it looks like it could be a memory thing but i know my computer can run it as it has before and nothing has changed since.

i have reinstalled many times now made sure i have nothing added on except the patch that came out for it and run it on all compatability modes and yet still no progress....

Any final help before i give in??

You could have a hardware problem, do have anything to check the memory?

sorry if im being stupid but i have a memory usage gadget on my google desktop and it says 59%??

try doing start=>Run and type in dxdiag, it should show all sorts of data about your PC's hardware

so i have 998Mb of ram avalible but my memory usage even just with messenger and the internet open peaked to 79% recently if that means anything.

Im really no good at the technical side of any of this so feel free to treat me like im 5.

is that any help?
