Simple, free mode?

If I bought this game, I think that I'd be most interested in making a realistic-looking city, rather than a realistically-working city. I think it would be nice if there was another mode where you had unlimited funds and no abandonment or anything, so you could just create nice-looking cities without worrying about the private sector or taxes or anything. When it comes to city-building games, I'd rather feel like an artist than a politician. What do you think? Should there be a "sandbox mode" like in RCT3 or would that sort of ruin the game?

Yes, it would be nice to be able to configure almost all aspects of game - to create cities where people don't need jobs or machine cities without residents, where they'd be happy only in polluted areas, where they use cars only/mass transport only. There are also 2 extremes: graphical-only city without any simulations (without electricity, trafic, ..., only graphical effect like cars would be in place). And trafic simulation city, where you just draw transportation network, set places of origin and destinations of travel and let the engine to calculate amount of trafic created - this would be great for planning growth of your actual city...

According to my reading of the CXL website, they are planning a "sandbox mode" where people will have an infinite amount of funds, and it is intended for people to hone their playing skills without breaking the bank.

If you think about it, no doubt there will be cheats made for the game anyways which will unlock everything and give unlimited money!

i dont nesacarily want to cheat.. i mean.. it makes people fell guilty... cheating in a games wrong.. but when theres a sertain aspect of the game where you can do those things.. that cheats would do if you didnt have it (e.g unlimited money) would make you feel that your doind the right thing.. no the wrong thing....

although.. citiesxl is so cooolll.. cant wait to get it.. already saving up (i got $230.50, thats definatelly enough)

unlimited mode is also a nessacary.. if you dont have it.. theres that certain aspect of builders who havent dont his before... alot of people havent played a city builder game because they think its boring.. but with all these great reveiws in monstrous amounts.... this game will be huge... and quite close to the oppening date of sims 3 (massage to all citiesxl creators.... sims3 is coming out and you probably would want to make a add on tv, yes TV, to get your voice out there... im sure you can beat sims 3) but back to subject... bigineers will have no idea what to do and like what i did with simcity4 once i got it... well i just kept getting banktrupt... makling siriously small towns with like 3 houses... huge debts and alot of police stations and fire starions... not the best thing... if that happens... people get off the game quickly because they realize that there not going well.. and definitally shouldnt play... and they give up.. but if you have a free game type (e.g. free mode on rct3) people will go on that expecting that its incredibly easy.. theyll make rrally cool stuff and keep playing... theyll learn heaps and make big skysraper cities... transportation mayhem and most of all enjoy the game... (god im blabbering on..)... (if anyone is reading  at this point... you read too much, but then again.. i type too much..) newbs will become masters... and then get into the real game.. and think hmm... wow.. eek im going bankrupt.. well maybe if i put commercial stuff there.. industry and residential.. ooh wow... (few hours later) megatropolis..)

lol i realy type too much

. personnally i feel like erasing this whole thing.. dont know why but i do.. maybe its my stupid brain that thinks that typing too much is bad.. but then again .. it is.. shut up brain! no you shut up! no you shut up! no you shut up..  no you shut up!!!!! god.. i hate my brain sometimes...32.giflol..  love smileys17.gif

It seems like a good idea, doesn't it? But, with a mode like this, it kind of takes out all of the fun. To me, most of the fun lies in managing your budget, while creating a decent city that can thrive and please your citizens. Bah.

Well, different people like different things, so the best would be to offer this mode so that people who don't like to fiddle with budgets and have other goals can use it, and those like you who enjoy beancounting don't have to use it. Everybody's happy.

Anyway, like someone said above, it does sound like this has already been confirmed to be in the game.

Yeah, hurray. I'm glad they're putting this into the game becuase every time I finally get skycrapers in my city, I go bankrupt. I'm so sick of it I got some money makers, one was a tree that got (this is the real number) $10,000,000,000,000,000,000 a month (you know what they say, the best type of kill is OVERKILL). Actually my favorite part of RCT3 was the sandbox mode.
