My Lagging Problem...

Hey there!

I am having an odd problem with SC4 Rush Hour on my notebook. I had the game on it a while ago, and it worked great, but when I installed it again after getting bit by the SC4 bug, it started lagging immensly. (Even in cities with 25,000 sims or less.) I've seen a few other topics about this, but the solutions have so far not not worked for me. My notebook is also quite powerful so I don't think thats the problem.

Here are my specs:
Processor: Intel Core2 Duo CPU T9500 @ 2.60Ghz
RAM: 4GB
System Type: 32-bit Windows Vista Home Premium
Graphics Card: NVIDIA SLI Geforce 8800M GTX
Resolution: 1920x1200

I've tried everything I can think of, I even tried runing the game wihtout my plugins, but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas?42.gif

Thanks!44.gif

I had a similiar problem when I reinstalled my game on another CPU. Surprisingly I was going form a 5 year old to a few month old computer. It worked on the 5 year old but not very well on the new one. So I cleaned the disc and rereinstalled it. That did the trick.

Darn, I finally found some time to try that, but I'm still having the same problem after a clean re-install. Any other ideas?

    This may help.

Mine works fine on my Dell E1505 with 1.7 GHZ Core Duo and 2GB RAM. You also might want to try reinstalling the game. Also, you may want to download Task Assign and Prio.  Task assign assigns programs to a certain CPU. Simcity 4 doesn't support multiple CPU's so it may go faster by assigning it only to one. Prio can save and change the priority of a task so it can use more memory, which I have my game at Realtime or Very high. I think Prio may also keep the affinity setting, but haven't observed enough to be sure. I hope that helps! 9.gifquote>

Thanks for all the replies so far! I have tried changing my virtual memory as well as all the tips in the omnibus article, however I am working on trying to get SC4 to run on one core. (I've run into some problems with it) I'll post back once I've tested it! 4.gif

Ok, I finally fixed it! After trying everything else to no avail, I started to think about what had changed with my computer since I played SC4 on it last. The only thing that I could think of was my graphics card driver, so I headed over to the NVIDIA control panel to try and tinker with it. I eventually told my card to emphasize "Quality" settings and ignore in-game settings and viola', it worked! No more lag!

It's an odd fix, but I can live with turning that on before I play.

Thanks again to everyone who tried to help me figur this out!4.gif
