Black Screen?

I have a frequent encounter with a black screen. When i start the game, sometimes the EA video will load, sometimes it wont. After that, my screen stays black. Sometimes it will make it to the region screen, but if i click on a button, none of the words are there. If i scroll around the region, the parts that get scrolled off the screen turn black.

It did not used to do this. My drivers say they are updated. I googled around and i believe this is a fairly common problem, but i could not find a solution anywhere. I have tried re-installing, rebooting, restoring, but nothing. I cannot reformat my computer at the current time.

Any ideas what is wrong?

Edit: I ran EAsyInfo, and it tells me i have a Pentium Model 13 73MHz processor. My device manager tells me Pentium M 1.60GHz. Could this be what is wrong?

Have you added any new plugins to your game?

Could be several things. First off, have you installed any of the updates from the EA website? Updating the game can sometimes fix the issue.

Also, what, if any plugins have you installed recently? Any terrain mods? Cause if I remember correctly, if you didn't have all the dependencies installed, you usually ended up with a CTD or really buggy gameplay.

Last, specifically what GPU and CPU do you have? I could be several things there.

I haven't installed any plug-ins, or updates from EA. What i have downloaded and installed was a region - NMDT Gotham City or something like that.

GPU: ATI Mobility RADEON X300

CPU: Intel ® Pentium ® M Processor 1.60GHz

I also run with the -customresolution shortcut, as the laptop is widescreen. The game used to work perfectly fine. It would also work perfectly the first time i ran it after a reboot. Second time would go black though.

I have since re-installed yet again, and the black screen hasnt appeared yet.
