Really strange textures since I started playing again.

Hello guys,

A few days ago I started playing SC4 again after a couple of months. I have always build in European style (as I am Dutch) but just before I quited half a year ago I changed my style (thus plugin list) radically to American.

The reason that I'm playing again is that I am still fascinated by the European transport networks and building styles. So that means that I had to change my plugin list back to European style. Some plugins in my American plugin list are very usefull for European style as well so I didn't removed the whole list and started downloading again but I just removed those typical American buildings and replaced them with European buildings. Other major changements where the updated NAM, Euro roads and Euro car instances.

But since the beginning of my new SC4 adventure I am experiencing some very weird problems. See the screenshots below:

As it is

As it should be

What the hell, and I haven't used any seewalls

It should be a railtrack

Roadzoning?

Okay about the building textures. It only happens with downloaded buildings. And sometimes the textures go to normal when I zoom in and out, same counts for the roadzoning. Does anybody knows what's wrong?

Ok... I am really starting to think this has to do with a 10.5 update. Are you running any version of 10.5 by chance? This may even be a 10.5 versus 10.4 issue. Rendering in software mode does not help. I have the same issue and this was just brought up again in another Mac thread. I think its an Intel Mac issue and specific to a 10.5 update... but not sure right now. Let me know your Mac's specs!

MacBook 1.83 Ghz CD, 1 GB RAM, 60 GB HD, running 10.5.6. As you see I have the latest updates, so it could be the update.

    My diagnosis:

Pics 1-2: Conflict between the church, and another building you have installed. Find the conflicting building, and remove it.

Pic 3: The game is reading a building fsh (I think that's what it's called), as terrain textures. Possibly a conflict between the terrain mod and a downloaded building (though the building looks maxisish, it could be something with the way you installed the terrain mod). Try reinstalling the terrain mod, make sure you get all the dependencies, the latest version (probably from SC4D), and follow the instructions in the readme to the letter. If that doesn't work, find the building that's showing up instead of the rock textures and remove it.

Pics 4-5: Both appear to be conflicts with the euro mod and the game. Make sure you have the most recent version of the Euro mod (you'll probably have to go to SC4D).

If anything I said doesn't work, then the best suggestion I can give you is to quarantine your plugins folder. Divide your plugins up into 3 or 4 folders, start a new region, and test the game with each one installed. When you find the problem folder, divide that up like you did your main folder, and use that technique to narrow it down to the individual file.

^^ I myself removed all plugins and this issue remained. Also I had not installed but a handful of plugins when this started to happen. They were all PEG plugins for marinas. The thing is these artifacts dont appear right away but are greatly stirred up, at least for me, if you zoom in and out a lot. If I dont zoom it may take a long time for this problem. But if I zoom, bam. Also these artifacts dont show up at all zoom levels. For example as level 1 and 2 there may be no messed up buildings, but if I zoom out one further level, bam.

Well I could find the source of the buildings from the pictures. Thing is, that it happens not only with these buildings, but with a lot of buildings that are downloaded. The building on the terrain textures is a standard Maxis building by the way. So I think it has something to do with the latest Leopard update?

All of the bugs have "conflicting plugins," written all over them, and since they're still happening with no plugins, it might very well have something to do with the Leopard update (maybe some of the game .dats got scrambled around or something). Have you tried a reinstall yet?

As I have found, most of these problems may be related to plug ins, whereas others are related to the video drivers in 10.5.6. Originally we thought it might be a problem with the ATI drivers, but the MacBook (pre-Unibody) all used Intel video cards. Create a new account on your system and try playing without plug ins, I suspect you will find fewer problems. Also, you will get different results depending on whether you are running the PPC version or the UB version.
