No Trains!!!!

I have been searching in the forums for some time for help on getting my residents and industries to use my rail networks. I have tried so many experiments and still no result!! It's driving me mad! I have placed bus stops and parking lots next to my stations. I have tried building roads to my commercial and industrial sectors, allowed them to develop and then cut off the road access to force them to find another route but they just end up not having jobs and abandoning. I have also downloaded an ordinance which is supposed to force people to use mass transit and it still doesn't work. I don't know what else to do. Can anyone help?!! 

My sims don't seem to want to travel very far to work at all either. I have two commercial cities with about 150,000 commercial jobs available but whenever I try to build a residential neighbour, they just complain about jobs and then abandon the city regardless of how I lay out my road and highway networks. Any ideas would really help!!

Are you saying that rail would be the only way to get there and they're not using it?

More general... Do you have NAM installed? If so, which traffic simulator did you use? That could have an impact. Is it just ground rail or el-rail also? And have you tried the game with no plugins to see if something is affecting it? You might want to post an image of your layout to get more specific assistance.

Have you got Rush Hour or Deluxe ?

Trying to get mass transit working with the plain Sim City 4 is a real pain.

If you have got Rush Hour make sure you install the patches EA released.

Yeah, I have plenty of bus stops in my other zones. Rail is the only method of getting to my industrial and commercial sectors but they still won't use it. I have the latest version of nam. I'm not sure what you mean by "which traffic simulator am I using" though? (I'm pretty new to sim city!) I'm using a mix of elevated and ground rail with ground to rail connections but I have also tried experiments with just ground rail as well as just elevated rail but still no result. I haven't tried it without plugins so I will test that. I can't post a picture of my layout just yet as I'm at work but I'll put some up here later when I get home. Oh, and I have the deluxe version.

hmmm... Well, just as a quick guess, since you said you've tried both ground and elevated rail without success, and since you have NAM installed, do you happen to have a left-hand version of the game (vehicles travel on the left)? If so, did you install the left-hand component of NAM? Without it, rail, elrail, and monorail won't function. That particular component option is the last item in the NAM insallation checklist. It's easy to miss if not looking for it.

The 'traffic simulator' is the Traffic Controller option selected when installing NAM. If you didn't actually select one, the default standard was probably used. Hope this helps and continue to let us know...

I had the SAME problem Hyde till someone told me to reinstall NAM and use the 'Z' simulator. Look at Cap's screenshot above. You'd open (click) on the plus of Traffic Controller Files and select what simulator you want to use. 

I'm new to all this also so don't ask me what the difference is between different simulators... yet but 'Z' is working great for me.

Have you read this thread yet? It's what got me 'railing'.

Hey guys! I have just re-installed the nam with left hand drive and selected 'z' for my traffic controller. I now have trains!!!! In fact, my sims are going crazy for them!! All of my stations have jumped up to 300% capacity! Thank you all for your help. You have no idea how long I have spent trying to figure this one out!!
