GLR causes game crashes.

I think the title is self-explanatory, but regardless.

I have recently downloaded the January 09 NAM, and I have no problems at all with any of the other additions (high EL rail, high monorail, et all), and the avenue roundabouts, EVERYTHING else works just fine with no complaints, but my problem is with the GLR. Initially, there are no problems, but as I plop more down (generally aroud 30-40 track pieces)  the game freezes, and crashes.

My operating system is an IBM T30, with a Windows XP operating system.

I hope to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

There are some other threads about this, you might want to check them out for more detail, but it seems to crash when you have a piece of track, like when you are plopping it, and move it over a transit enabled lot (ie station).

If you are using the ploppable GLR tracks, keep in mind that they cannot hover over the stations, or anything else that can have a transit line drawn through, otherwise, the game will crash.

I don't think the drawable GLR has this problem (except for the starter piece).

alright... keep the ploppables from oversecting the stations. I think I can do that. =)

    [sigh]

This is a problem that really does not have a solution. It is not a "bug" with the NAM or anything else and is not limited to the Ground Light Rail.

WHY PUZZLE PIECE HOVERS OVER TE LOTS CAUSE CRASHES

What the player sees as a "TE lot" is the result of some special coding overrides in the lot, that lie to the network and automata *display* processes.  This way, they are "tricked" into drawing a continuous road for the player, with traffic, instead of displaying the ugly reality (a broken road with a bus stop in the middle of it).

These same lies cause the game to crash to desktop when someone hovers a "puzzle piece" over the lot.  The puzzle-piece preview thinks it's over a network (it believes the lie), so it goes looking for RUL tables so it can auto-orient itself.  Lots don't have the proper tables for this purpose; only networks do.  Null/random pointer, meet desktop.  This is not a "puzzle piece" problem, it's a TE-lot problem, and it's not solvable without modding the EXE itself.

The underlying point is, the network doesn't *really* go through a TE lot.  That's just a clever display trick.  They're really just Transit Switch lots, like any other.quote>

This is an excerpt from mott's article which can be found here: TE Lots, Transit Switches, and You

TE=Transit Enabled, All stations are considered Transit Enabled Lots in Sim City 4.

I've got somewhat of the same problem. Except, mine just crashes without plopping down anything. I let time go by at full speed but once I start querying my roads and bus stops, it crashes after a few minutes. I don't use any rails or subways (because I can't manage it all) just Bus stops. It started happening after I installed the NAM 09 plug in. Any one have a clue?
