Industry develops without sims moving in?

Folks,

after developing my first city - and beeing motivated by all these "show us your seaport"-threads I decided to start a new city (neighbouring the first one) in order to create a seaport with some industry around it, but no residental areas (since there is very few landmass and I want to spare that for developing the port). These two cities are connected by highway, road an elrail. Once I've done that, i came to notice something funny: Industry in the seaport city develeopes fine, and you can also see the truck traffic between the two cities when using the traffic query tool. However, no sims seem to travel accros the city border accoring to what the traffic query shows. At the same time, the nearby seaport warehouses (CDK3 lots providing commerce jobs) where "abandoned due to commute time". So tell me - who is working in that industry if not someone from the neighbouring city? How are they traveling in? Is there a kind of future technology involved (beaming ...?) that I cannot track down with the query tool? Again, there a no connections to other cities but these two and no residential areas in the "seaport" city.

regards,

Peter

There are always more jobs than workforce in every thriving SC4 region.

Due to the path finding, sims work in those places that are closer to their homes.

In other words, the available jobs won't be evenly spread out in the region.

Instead they will be in the most remote locations, such as your industrial port...

If you're using CAM 1.0, this is even more accentuated,

due to the simulator thinking there are more people in the region than there actually are.

It is also well known that industry can flourish even if nobody works there...

They do not become abandonded due to long commute as commercials do.

Well now that's intreresting - so there will be sims working but no sims travelling -- fine with me, as long as the city grows ...9.gif

Is there a level above which you will see the sims travelling across city borders? I'm curious because I do see (with the query tool) sim traffic (using cars and elrail) between other cities in the region - so I was wondering if there was some basic problem (e.g. faulty street layout) hindering sims to travel between these two cities.

However - I will keep that in mind - possibly I will lsee the traffic once the industry demand exceeds a certain number of workforce ..

    thx
