Maybe I'm totally missing it, but where can I find complete cities?

I was looking for some completed cities to download and study to give me some new ideas...is there a section on this site that has some cities available, or a link to a site that does?

As far as I know, there are no sites that have full cities for download, I know for sure this site doesn't have any, nor do any of the other sites I've seen.

There are a number of reasons why cities are not uploaded.

1) They tend to be very large files, so hosting them is an issue.

2) Compatibility problems may arise not just do to game versions, but any mods that you have could interact negitively with the pre made city (CAM, for example is not advised for existing cities/ regions).

3) Dependencies, dependencies, dependencies... Everything that the uploaded city had in its plugin folder (and used on that city), you must have for things to show up right. If I were to upload one of my cities, sure it would be cool, but you would need literally over fifteen thousand files. And if it was a city that had only maxis content, it wouldn't be very interesting anyway.

4) Region interaction, cities need adjacent cities to function in a lot of cases (especially with more developed ones). If a commute city made for mostly residential was played with out its corresponding job base, it would quickly become a wasteland.

Even if you did get by all these obstacles and were able to get it working right, what fun would there be in it? It would be defeating the whole point of playing the game. And if you just wanted to see how other people build, well that's what the CJ section is for.

Hope that was informative,

-Todd

That covers it very well, SimHoTToDDy.  Administratively, we didn't get past the point that we simply do not have the bandwidth to do it.   Your other points, though, are valid as well.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Maxis made a downloadable region that was on their site. It contained 4 cities, none of which where particularly interesting, but they were good for me when I didnt know where to start. Better, in fact, than the tutorials, which were useless.

Yes, Simcityscape, where people were able to download regions with mayoral terms of about seven days before you had to re-upload the city for others to build on.

One was able to download others' cities, build and put them back in the region after playing the city for seven days or so.

It got so over ran with cities that were not functional in regular play, as well as was unmanagable by the site owners.

You can still see some of the site's leftover operation at the old simcity site under the 'simcityscape' icon in the 'play' button still on that site.
