Stratburg

Game Play, Stratburg was built partly by using some of the mods downloaded from simtropolis, there is no money cheat. Realistic!

Introduction

Once a small quaint town North of my island map, the little village called Cape Cove Ville with 8,000 inhabitants is transforming into a city. The government of the island Molokai (region name of my map) has decided to further develop Cape Cove Ville into a vibrant and classy metropolis of the North. Furthermore Cape Cove Ville will be renamed Stratburg. Named after Sir Edward Strat from Britain who first discovered the island and set foot in the village he called Cape Cove because of the shape of the area on which the city was located. Stratburg should have the function of business capital of North Molokai, it will have its own international airport, stock exchange branch and a few corporate headquarters.

Present day Stratburg

It is the year 176 in Stratburg. The city has grown from 8,000 inhabitants and peaked out at 210,000 inhabitants in the year 154. Today Stratburg has 167,000 inhabitants. The population drop is attributed in part to the changing social aspects of the city. The city is attracting many wealthy folks, at least 80,000 people in Stratburg are from the higher class, while approximately 60,000 are from the middle. The drop is also attributed to the demolishment of entire neighborhoods for commercial space and new residential. Stratburg has an aging population, most people that live in Stratburg are above the age of 50. Clearly the city of Stratburg wants to see changes in that and wants to attract more younger folks. To do so the city must provide more recreation facilities nearby residential zones, better schools and sporting facilities.

The quality of life in Stratburg is high. The average commute time in the year 176 stands at 8 minutes which is rather acceptable. There is no monorail, and no underground metro system as of yet. The city has 2 train stations 1 is located in downtown and the other in the Arts District.

Stratburg goal

The goal is to convert Stratburg into an important metropolis of the North. A thriving city where improving the quality of life of its citizens stands high on the agenda. A city where Stratburgens could live, work, recreate and most importantly enjoy and call with pride home. On the international agenda Stratburg should compete with other cities. Stratburg will strive to gain the title World Class City. The idea is to have have a metropolitan area of at least 4 million people.

Downtown Stratburg

With the decision on converting Stratburg into a metropolis of the North coast numerous important decisions had to be made on city planning. It is decided to expand downtown Stratburg with high density commercial development. In the North Western quadrant of downtown a huge park was created in order to improve the quality of life of Stratburgens. The park has a man made pond, a waterfall, 6 tennis courts, a soccer field and an open treeless area in the center for Stratburgens to sunbath. The huge park is considered the longs of the city and a place of tranquility. In the core of downtown the Empire State Building was erected which now stands as a landmark for downtown. Downtown's function is mainly that of a place to work. Roughly 70% of the land there is designated for commercial use and 30% for residential.

Midtown Stratburg

Midtown Stratburg was created 30 years ago in the height of Stratburg great boom. Because there was a lack of land for commercial development in downtown. It was decided by the city council of Stratburg to build two artificial islands just off shore of downtown. These 2 islands are divided by channels from each other and the mainland, and are connected with each other and the mainland by bridges. The creation of both islands has boost the attractiveness of Stratburg. Pleasure boats often pass through the channels with Stratburgens and tourists admiring the art deco architecture and the city skyline. The creation of the islands was inspired by the development of the city Amsterdam in The Netherlands. Later another smaller island was created to the South of both islands, here is where the baseball stadium of the city is constructed. Home of the baseball team the Stratburg Capricorns.

Midtown is a mix of commerce and residential 50/50. The City Hall of Stratburg was moved from downtown to Midtown. And the Chrysler building was erected serving as a landmark for Midtown. The Chrysler building is not just a landmark. During every 4th of July thousands of Straburgens flock to Midtown to watch the 4th of July fireworks display. The fireworks are lighted from the top of the Chryserler building.

Stratburg Arts District.

In the last 10 years the Arts District was created to the North East of the city. The Arts District is next to downtown's boarder. The Arts District was previously a rundown area of town. The 1st phase of demolishing buildings in the Arts District is achieved and new residential and commercial land was designated for development. An avenue was created that links downtown and runs right through the center of Arts District. Along side the avenue a few cinema's, the city's Museum of Art and the city's Opera House were constructed. Arts District has the function of an artsy neighborhood where artist and performers live. There is also an arts park in the center of the district where performers play in open air. The 2nd and final phase of the masterplan Arts District will be concluded before the year 185.

Stratburg Park Side

Park Side is a brand new Urban Division Masterplan that was approved by city council just recently. Park Side will be constructed North of the city park. Park Side will bring value to the combination parks and urbanity. The masterplan calls for the creation of a mid rise residential area and a few commercial lots. Ratio 90% residential and 10% commercial. Park Side will be an urban hood filled with parks, fountains, small plaza

The Central Station is located in the right bottom part of the picture. Roundabout near the park connects some of the city's  main traffic arteries with each other, while one traffic arterie connects the urban area near the Central Station as a tunnel under the park with the roundabout. The bridge connects downtown with Midtown.  Alongside the channel a promenade was created.

Very good looking city you have there.

I think now would be a good time to see a region picture.

The road layout of the downtown area is good. Despite the fact it's largely grid, you've broken it up (quite successfully I might add) with parks and a shoreside avenue.

What I think need to do now is to expand the metropolis out into the region. Build some suburbs. However, I suggest you (try) to bring it down gradually. That's how many cities work in real life. And I think you said you were trying to do realistic.

Pretty good, though. Keep it up.

One thing - there are two distressed buildings in the main downtown picture. Get rid of them. They REALLY drag down the whole area.

    Hey Stratosphere,

I have a question. Do you have any other development in your region, and if so would you show it?

Based on the only city I can see in your region, it looks to me like you have used the SuperDemand Mod. You have a large city tile, and it is nowhere near full, but yet you have 1.3 million people in your region <ahttps://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/23.gif>. There are so many stage 8's in downtown, and so little development in neigbor cities. Don't get me wrong, I use that mod too, but the cities I use it on are never posted on the website, because in my mind it wasn't my decisions that created those buildings it was a simple click, and then wait time.

With all that said it is still a very nice city, and I do hope to see more of the region as it develops. I hope you can prove me wrong regarding what I said above.

    Happy Mayoring,
    T.G. Chozo

Well the region is one big island the real size of Oahu island Hawaii. So the intention is to build several realistic cities on the island region. Though I will not entirely build up the region map. So most of the cities will be located on the coast with a few smaller towns inland. Freeways, and train tracks will cross the map connecting cities and other metro areas.

However New Brusnwick will be the main city and capital,  and I want it to grow to at least 10 million metro or  a megalopolis. New Brunswick is a metropolitan area consisting out of 5 distinctive cities (5points), with the main city being New Brunswick, other Gatwick, Bullhead, Midtown and another to be built city within the New Brunswick bypass  (which name is not known as yet). Stratburg is located at the northern coast and I am now more focus on it. New Brunswick metro will continue as soon as I finish Stratburg metro.

The final phase plan for Arts District continues. This calls for the demolishment of some commercial and residential buildings. They will be replaced for medium density (high-rises) residential and commericals. A rail tunnel will be constructed under the new residential and commerical area. The rail tunnel is needed in order to connect a future station for yet another urban division in the planning. Of course commericial lots that do develop into cinema's in this District will be made historical.

The main avenue will be expanded towards the East. The avenue will consist out of 4 lanes two lanes heading for each direction. the 2 lane road will be sperated by a walking boulevard to be constructed in the middle. This in order to make the avenue  attractive and stress the importance of this artery for the district.

For the final touches, Arts District will be the first section of the city to be granted street names. The more realism the better. All streets in Arts District will carry names of important opera singers, musicals themes, poetry writers and painters and other artists.

    Arts District Center.

Arts District Center is where the London Tower is at and the Open Air Symphony Plaza.

Arts District avenue in the middle  a walking boulevard. Alongside the avenue Cinemas and hotels. The road will be changed in 2 lanes heading West and 2 lanes heading East. The avenue will be given the name Beethoven.

Mate, you should get the realistic water mod (downloadable from the mods section). It would enhance your city beyond belief, especially considering you're using PEG's pond pack/s. (the colour of the water after the realistic water mod is similar to the water in peg's packs.

Have not been working on my city lately due to a 4 week vacation in Aruba. Now I am back in business for Stratburg. A new Mega Central Station is now under construction and will handle up to 20,000 train passengers twice as many as the present big station. In addition PARK SIDE is now under construction. While Arts District is receiving its final touches. During the long city council meeting it was decided to start with the drawings of 2 new city districts which will go by the name Music City and College Park. Plans for both districts will be discribed in detail later prior to construction.

Also some announcements: BAT buildings have already appeared in Stratburg. I would like to thank those that put so much effort in creating beatiful BAT buildings, you guys are doing an excellent job. In addition the realistic ocean water MOD is installed.

Bottom left corner downtown Stratburg. West of Goldberg Park is the urban district Victoria Heights and the city's Grand Central Station. You can also see a highway that runs as a tunnel under Victoria Heights. The Highway is partly made and not completed. It would eventually serve as  a half circle bypass for the city.

Park Side is an urban district presently under construction in the city. This big masterplan calls for the construction
of many mid level urban residential rises with a few midrise retail stores. Park Side is surrounded with channels that come from  Goldberg Park. The water is used city water that has been processed and cleaned and is heading out via Park Side to the open ocean. Park Side will also be the green urban mecca of the city, surrounded with trees, parks, playground and plazas. The above picture shows part of Park Side with the avenue as the boarderline seperating Park Side and Goldberg Park.

    THE STRATBURGER TIMES.

    Stratburg passes 250,000 milestone.

It is the year 243 and the population of the city Stratburg has passed 250,000.  It will not take any time longer for the city to pass 300,000 inhabitants. According to the census bureau of Stratburg, the city has grown extremely fast in the past 20 years with the completion of the Park Side urban project and the expansion of Victoria Heights the city has added at least 60,000 new residents. Newcomers are attracted to the city's healthy economy, good schools, cleanliness and low crime rate. It  is very likely that the new milestone of 300,000 inhabitants will be broken when the city is 250 years old. That will double celebration.

Fashion District master plan in the making.

The Park Side urban project has neared completion and has certainly become an urban attraction for the city with its channels, parks, waterfalls, ferry terminal, boats and great landscapes. The city council of Stratburg has decided on stepping forward to the next urban expansion project. In order to give Stratburg more class, it is decided to create the Fashion District. The Fashion District will be the third largest urban area of the city located at the Eastern  point of the peninsula (view map). The concept plan for fashion district calls for many mid level preferibly high-end commercial stores and shopping malls. Fashion District should be the exclusive shopping mecca of Stratburg.  As well as putting Stratburg on the World fashion map. More details on the Fashion District master plan will follow later.

    Plans for city bypass.

The Deparment of Public Works was instructed by Stratburg's city council to study the possibilities of a city bypass. Though Stratburg does not suffer of major traffic congestion, the bypass is believe to be necessary in view of the future expansion plans of the city. The average commute time in Stratburg is 6 minutes which is pretty good. Stratburg did very well in mixing residential zones with commercial zones. But what if metro Stratburg expands,  that will bring lots of traffic from future burbs to downtown core within the city limits. If the city is planning on adding 250,000 new residents by the year 300 than the bypass should be considered says Ben Miller member of city council. Miller acknowledges that it will be a difficult task to plan the bypass.  The bypass may probably even require the construction of an artificial island at sea. Whatever the choices are it is certain that this will be the most expensive infrastructure project for Stratburg so far.  As soon as the proposal is finished it will be debated in city council before eventual approval.

    Downtown Financial District.

Highway I-12 that runs West of the city near the District College Park. In the future it may serve as a bypass for the city.
