SC4 Dexule Crash assistance

Okay, so i recently bought SC4 deluxe and quite frankly I'm have a pretty smooth experience, up until now, atleast. I started my first city and built up a pop of around 200000 people. The city is approximately 1/2 of a large map. Now, whenever i try to load this city it displays the loading screen briefly, before crashing to the desktop. I can enter any of my other cities in the region.

I'm running the latest patch with NAM april 08.

My pc is 3500+ AMD, 2gb ram, 8500gt 1GB so i dont think the problem is my hardware, but knowing maxis...

So, can anyone help me with any ideas to fix this? Help is much appriciated.

Did it happen the first time you tried to re-open the city after saving it? Did you make any changes to your plugins (add or take out anything) after saving the city. Crashes might occur if the city is saved with certain plugins and then they're removed. Or it might happen if new things conflict with items that weren't in the plugins when the city was saved. If you have made changes, you might try to undo any changes and use only those plugins that were in place the last time you saved the city. Also, did you use any custom airports, seaports, or terrain mods. Depending on the types, crashes may result if not installed correctly.

I started the city without NAM, and installed it halfway through. I saved it a couple times with NAM, before it just crashed to the desktop mid game. Now i can't load that city anymore.

Hmmm...

Well, first, there is a known issue with the game when using the NAM. If you have certain puzzle pieces selected and then hover over or touch a transit-enabled lot with the cursor, a crash will result. However, that usually doesn't result in a city not being able to be re-opened.

So, do you have or have you ever had any other plugins loaded or is the NAM the only thing you have added? As I mentioned earlier, it is possible for changes in the plugins to lead to crashes in saved cities. If the NAM is the only thing you've ever added to the game, I guess it is possible the city file became corrupted during the mid-game crash. Kind of depends on what else you've done with plugins. Let us know...

Also, did you happen to keep any backups of your cities? It's a good idea to do so for just this kind of thing.

NAM is all i have running currently. The game did crash when i was working on my highway so that might be the cause.

I didn't back my city up, guess ill have to from now on.

Sorry to hear that... If NAM is the only thing you've had loaded, it sounds like the city may have been corrupted. You might try to re-install NAM with the same options selected that you had the first time - who knows?

Oh, one more thing.. I noticed you had used the April 2008 version of NAM. Have you installed any of the other NAM related items like RHW, HSRP, or SAM. If you have done so recently, you might have the newer versions that have been upgraded for use with the more recent Jan 2009 version of NAM. I don't know if this would cause your problem, but I thought I would mention it...

Okay. Thankyou very much for the help Captcity. Ive backed up my working cities and reinstalled deluxe and NAM. Hopefully i wont have the same problem again. Time to get my main metropolis up and running again! =)

On the the bright side, the commute was pretty poor...
