Some time ago I started my first CJ here, it was a 4x4 large cities hand terraformed region. It came not to far, I mean the journal, not the cities.
I decided to start over so I used the remove civilisation button and started it all over

The Region
The small county of Thalhausen (old German: Valley Town) stretches over 280 sqare kilometres, at the northern and western rims some mountain ranges are rising over the valley. Access is given to the sea in the south-east, where the first settlements developed.
Iron was found in the mountains so there is some mining activity going on there.

Social Systems
Thalhausen is part of a bureaucratic deomcracy (very similar to Germany) with relatively high social standards (education and health services)

Current Stats
Total Regional Population: 423 000
Cities:
Thalhausen (pop: 200 000 work:150 000)
Cierten (pop: 90 000 work: 80 000)
Aierten (pop: 70 000 work: 10 000)
Ladena (pop: 55 000 work 15 000)

Towns:
Total rural population 12 000

Oups, I forgot to submit the first entry:

    Thalhausen, historical development
The small fishing village Thalhausen was founded at the shore of the sea that starts to stretch at the southeastern border of the area that is today the county of Thalhausen.

The beginning industrial revolution meant also a boost in Thalhausens population and economy. The population nearly quadrupled over a few years.
    02_thalhausen_town.jpg

This was not the end of course. it took some decades of fast industrial development but nowadays Thalhausen is the economic center of this part of the country. An important factor to this was the establishment of the international free trade harbor of Thalhausen.
Thalhausen today has a population of over 200.000 according to the last census of them more then 50% involved into industrial labour.

The international free trade harbor is a blessing for the local an regional industry, but not for the environmentalists. They are fighting the harbor for over a decade now, without success.

The countries government has acknowleged the strategic and economic importance of Thalhausen by setting up the joint services base. There are rumours every now and then suspecting the government to do secret tests with alien technology!

I like the 1st 2 pics, but the city as it is today seems a bit weird with its square forests, long and straight avenues, etc.
    The port is very nice!

Well I might make the city a little rounder by using low density areas. Thanks for this constructive critics.
    all other visitors
    thanks for dropping by.

    Welcome to Ladena
Ladena is an industrial city that is close to Thalhausen, the population is nowadays around 50 000. But I do not want to lose to many words, see for your self.

    Sporty people
They are good, dropping in to the soccer regional championsship and lets see what is going on.

The first 45 minutes were running well and a goal by Bischoff the player with the number 11 was bringing them to a lead.
    ladena_blackgolds2.jpg
A second goal, again performed by Bischoff and the superior job by Markus Engelmann, the keeper with number 1 did the rest. The Ladena Blackgolds became regional champions for the third time in a row.

    Living in Ladena
Stop I wanted to tell you about the city itself, they have money:
    ladena_richresidential.jpg
and they do not only have a lot of money in the outer areas of the city but also a very well of downtown
    ladena_richdowntown.jpg

Sure, no one can tell you everyone is rich there but also the lower class and middle class residents can be in a positive coexistence with the upper class
    ladena_coexistence.jpg

The residential and commercial area developed a little away from the highly polluted harbor and its related industries
    ladena_city.jpg

Why do they have this money
The Ladenians work hard for their money, most of them are working in the oil and plastic related industries, the oil harbor and the refinery do provide a lot of well paying jobs. Though the city planners are not hoping for tourism, Ladena was and is a industrial harbortown and most residents are hoping that it will stay one for the future.
