one-way roads

If not, is there some modd that makes it possible?

Additional info: Traffic has gotten horrible in two of my cities, so I have decided to turn two roads into one-way roads to make it better. However, It will not allow me to connect the one-way roads to the other side. I tried it in other cities and it didn't work there either. I have the NAM installed, though I doubt that has anything to do with it.

Thanks in advance!

If the roads are close together, then you can connect them to an avenue to make the connection. If they both go in the same direction, that's a problem, there is no way to connect a single oneway to an avenue that looks good that I know of.

    I've tried stuff like this and it won't work. I just want to connect a one-way road to another city.

    Every neighbor connection must have two-way access into your city. Period.;

    The reason for this is because the way sim city (stupidly) handles neighbor connection traffic. Because SC4 aggregates the jobs of a neighbor across the whole tile, the nearest (as the crow flies) will be prefered even if this means a MUCH longer commute in the neighbor.

    Also because of this, each sim must return from wence they came...meaning back through the same neighbor connection. Why maxis did not opt to further breakdown the job distribution and report it when saving so other cities could access the information, i don't know (i.e. break it down by 16ths of the map). Also, they could have similarly added distance reporting for various different neighbor connex (i.e. connection "4" must travel x tiles to access 100 jobs). With these two small items, the neighbor pathfind could have been improved to the same quality you can find within a single city tile.

    But no, you cannot make a one-way connection to a city that is also functional. You cannot trick it by making the last tile a road tile and connecting them straight because sims either can't get in or out.

    You could make a lot that converts an avenue into oneway for the 'northbound' side and subway for the 'southbound' side, this would allow you to make an effective link that behaved properly and was cosmetically improved, but you would still need a tile of avenue. I've considered doing this before, but always came to the conclusion that it didn't look any better than using an avenue and having the cumbersome Z-shaped offset.

    So, if I have let's say a road between two cities and I try to connect a one-way road between the two, will it work because traffic is going in and out?

    Theoretically, it would. But not concerning SimCity 4, because the game's code was not written to support one-way road connection to another city.

    For this reason, I primarily make my cities as 'eye-candy', meaning that whenever I need a one-way connected to a neighboring city tile, a use a road as a false connector. It's the closest we will ever come to this with SC4.
