Train not appearing?

Hi,

I have a city which has a population of 20,000, a sizable medium industries.  Try to put a freight station at the industrial area.

Why is it that there is no usage of the train as the mode of transport i.e. train did not appear?  It seems that the trucks prefer the roads.

When I cut off the road connection to say a neighbouring city, think the truck will transport their goods to the train station and ship the good out. Strangely, all the trucks disappears after the road connection is cut.

Also, it is something wrong that the railway signal is red i.e. meaning that the bar is down and no car is passable if I connect a rail truck across the road or street?

Is there a good tutorial in simtropolis or could some kind soul please share your experience. I really want to see train moving in the city I build.

Thank you.

I remember a thread recently about the railway crossing gate being down all the time. The cars can't get through, but it also bugs the trains as well, meaning nothing can go through the crossing.

The cause of the problem, iirc, was left hand drive version of NAM being used on a right hand drive version of the game. If you have right hand drive SC4, try reinstalling NAM, making sure to use right hand drive in NAM installation.

If that isn't your problem, I don't know what it is, unless its something obvious like the track not having a neighbor connection (freight is always shipped out of town, not within town), or section of track incomplete.

and btw- they always seem to prefer trucks, but your train should have at least a little bit of activity. you can get a no truck route mod from STEX, but fix your bugged trains first 4.gif

Acually, I hope someone recalls where that thread is found - my searches have been futile. I have the same problem (not just trains, but all ELR/GLR disappear as well and No-Job zots appear more frequently). And all crossings are permanently down. Methinks that there's a malicious or badly modded lot somewhere.

Gene1947, do you recall what you downloaded recently?

edit: Is this what appears to you (draw path cheat enabled)

I finally get the problem solved.

The trains started appears in the city after I reinstall the NAM and choose the left hand drive option.  Also, I added the 'no truck' signs on the roads within the industry area, in a way 'forcing' the trucks to deliver the goods to the freight station. That's it!

Please see the image attached showing the train running..... thanks everyone who shared.

Great. But that leaves the question why all the X-Crossings remain closed, I believe. Any ideas?

You mean they are still closed after you fixed the paths?

Well they would stay wclosed if there were no paths because I belive there is a trggier in the paths that decides whether or not a train is coming and the deicdes to open or close the gates.
