Hi all 2.gif

I'm new to simtropolis, but i already loved it and open much interesting here. So i decided to post my city's journal.

It's not from the beggining, becouse i already work on it for several weeks.

The idea was to create an american-look-like city with huge suburbs, developed car-transportation system, financial, industrial etc. centers. My region's population now is 156 000, but the target is 500 to 1 mln.

I began construction on an absolutely empty region-map, but now deplore on it - routine! I start from central city and southern suburb, after i complete them began northern, the next will be eastern.

there are some screenshots:

Thanks all, happy christmas you too, but we in Russia more celebrate New Year =) A short update. While i used all space inside my ring-highway, i began construction of first satellite-city. Its population now is about 12 000 people. And i made 1 rural settlement on the north. All changes shown on screenshots 2.gif P.S. Anybody help with editing BBcode on a mac. its written in faq that there is special tool to edit messages, but i dont see one.

thats an awesome region you've got going there! its funny how you use some European terminology that I'm used to (i.e. satellite cities, which I'm used to in East Germany).

A little thing I noticed: With that picture with the town inbetween the farms; its a bit unrealistic. I know that in Europe that's how we do it, with towns existing inbetween farms. But in America, each farm has its own house, and towns only really exist right around cities, or removed from the farms. Your transportation (grids) is really realistic too, except for the highway running right into downtown (like the person after me is talking about)

Thought these pointers might be a little helpful. anyways it's looking great, and happy holidays!

I really like where this is going!

As an American urbanite, I would just give you one suggestion, though; take out that highway that runs through the center of downtown, it really takes away from realism of your city.

Downtowns are usually the oldest part of an American city, and often predate the highway/interstate system and the automobile. So, usually, to avoid networking complications or the demolishment of historical structures; interstates run as a loop around the city, and state highways connect to major roadways in the city. The only exception to this rule, are a few cities in the American west, such as as Los Angeles, Phoenix, and to a lesser extent Denver.

Your city, seems much more like a typical northeast, southern, or midwestern city, though.

For a few examples of large cities that use this "loop" model use Google images to find interstate maps of Manhattan, Houston, or Chicago. For some examples of medium sized cities that use that model google Pittsburgh, Memphis, or Indianapolis.

Actuelly i use Indianapolis as an example. And i construct this just a few moments ago, becouse of free space in the centre of my downtown and problems with traffic. OK, i'll delete it, thanks 2.gif

I like what you've got so far. It looks good.

A suggestion: Personally, I prefer CJ's where people upload their pics to hosting sites and then post using the %7Boption%7D tags so I don't have to click the thumbsnails. I don't know if anyone else feels the same though. Just something I thought I'd throw out there.

A request: Where did you find that color scheme mod for your transportation overview? I like the orange for highways, yellow for avenues, etc...!

Good considering you have so little custom content. I think you have a lot of potential

Nice work! I like the realism of your suburbs and your downtown. I see that many high-tech companies want to build factories in your city. Nice blend of industrial area in your city and the trees to make the scenery fresh. One question: Considering your downtown is so dense why is the total population count in your region view only a little more than 156000? Try to make it denser.

Do you know that you can make your pictures better by using the Prt Sc method, rather than taking the in-game photo method? Read more in the 'Guidelines/Rules/Tutorials' topic in the City Journal page to find out more.

    Cheers,

    Isaac :-)

to IsaacTham. Certainly i know, a make my screens smaller in photoshop, and i'm not taking it in game-photo-mode =). pop is no more than 156 becouse i have just 7 or 8 houses in density $$ and $$$. And i dont want them to be there.

    And now short update.

I tired from routine of constructing typical suburbs and made mountains on my map, after that began new pre-mountain city called Esto-Sadok (Russian ski-resort village in Caucasus). And another novelty is second ring-road. Hope you'll like it 2.gif

I think his buildings look American, although custom content can never hurt.
