Ok, my problem here is with the gray scale. What program should i be using to convert the .jpg file out of all grays in a color tile set into a true gray scale?

so far all ive seen on my computer is ms-paint, and when i try to change it to black and white, everything but mountain tops go black...sadly thats the only time it will actually load a picture into a region, and it only comes up as all water

so ya...like i said before, what program should i be using to convert the .jpg file out of all grays into a true gray? scale?

Just use the correction capability of Landscape Designer

Saves a lot of fuss and feathers, and you don't need to learn another picture editor.

I always use MS Photo Editor. It came with my PC and works perfectly for resizing images or converting them to greyscale. And best of all, it's free.

I use to do so, too. The MS-photo-pig must be translated by the landscape designer, and by the way it gives you a first impression of what the landscape will look like finally.

And if you need a full capability photo editor that is free, google for The GIMP.
