New computer not playing SC4 audio

Hi all,

I have just bought a new PC with new audio card etc.

For some reason, when I play SC4, there is no audio. I have checked the speakers with other programs ie windows media player and other audio programs and found that I had to pick which card to use in preferences and then it was fine.

Is there some function within Simcity preferences that allows you to choose where to send the sound or is it a problem with the PC?

Yep

This shouldn't be the case but this could fix your problem.

When you click the icon with the three dots, (usually to save your city or something like that), look farther to the right. You will see a sound options menu, here you can enable your music, or turn it up or choose what songs to play and to not play. You can even add custom music to play during the game! Usually it is enabled when you first install sc4, but this could be the problem. Not sure why it isn't turned on (if it actually isn't).

This also might not be the case but could help. I'll assume you have vista?

Start SimCity 4. Click on Volume icon in the system tray. Then with the small window that comes up, click Mixer. Make sure SimCity 4 isn't muted or the volume turned down for it.

Also, go into Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Manage Audio Devices. Make sure the proper device/output is selected as default. If not, set the right device/output as default and try running SC4 again.
