Hello people. I've just got a new laptop and i'm going to install Sim City 4 on it. However, i would like to keep all my old cities, plugins and updates (about 3 years worth). What files will i need to copy from my old Pc to my laptop? Cheers in advance

There are essentially three folders that you must copy:

1-Plugins folder in the game folder

2-Plugins in the SC4\My Documents Folder

3-The Regions folder in SC4\My Documents

Install SC4 on your new computer as normal, allowing all default folders to be installed, then copy/paste all three folders into the newly game-created defaults.

Acutally the filepath is MyDocuments\SimCity4 but you get the idea

that thread is great, i was about to ask the same thing

but i would like to know one more thing. what about the maxis update for the night lights? do i have to reinstal that? i remember i had i little problems with that...

Once you have installed the game, you can overwrite the program files with the older working, and updated program files.

Hey there, its me once again.

i reinstalled the game and pasted my old plugin folder. now everything seems to be right where it belongs to and nothing showed up missing (still suspicious)

but there is one important thing, that don't work! i'm missing the nightlights for the custom BATs!!!! what do i need to get them back to work again? the update from simcity.com, any other file? or do i have to put some certain file into the simcity folder under C:\programms... ?

EDIT: Nevermind, i figured it out with the forum articels. now it works

what is the difference between the plugins folder in the gamer directory and the plugins folder in your documents?

The files in the documents plugins folder load last. That allows mod files to override/change other factors of the game.
