Well, I was trying to install my The Sims game after many years (They're still in great condition). After I installed all of them I could, it went fine, but then yesterday morning, I tried to destroy a building, and then the game crashed. And now, it continues to crash once it gets to the neighborhood, even though I already uninstalled and reinstalled the game numerous times. Also, I already tried to put the game into windowed mode. So is there anything that can be done?

Is it part 1 or two?

Also, if you have vista you can try right clicking the game icon, select properties from the list, click on the tab that says "compatability" and try running it on the last windows you had. You can use this for xp or vista if the game worked on an older version.

Well, it's the first Sims, and I'm running XP.

Also, The Sims has worked before on the same computer. However, I deleted something, and now it won't work at all, even if it's uninstalled and reinstalled. Also, it fails, even if I don't put in any expansion packs.

Try restoring that 'something'. That will more than likely fix the problem.

    I mean that I deleted a house.

Yeah, I needed to be more specific, didn't I?

You can try a process called "restoring files". Basically what this does, is it restores everything you did from a selected date. Say you tell yopur computer to restore all files from the 1st of October, your computer will pretty much "go back" to the way it was on that date. This will however delete everything youve done since then unless you back up your files. I used this restore method to get rid of a virus on my computer.

What you do is you go to my computer, then click on control panel, then find the "back up and restore center" and restore your computer to a date before the time you installed the sims.

After this you can reinstall the sims.

I have vista, so your control panel might not look the same but im pretty sure it would be called "restore centre".

But be careful when doing this, because it will delete everything you did since the date you select. its powerful enough to delete viruses so try not to make a mistake =]

System Restore is designed to rollback the system in the event that a piece of software gets trashed or something similar. If you use System Restore, generally it doesn't tamper with your files, only software and system settings. Nor is it capable of getting rid of most modern viruses, as most modern viruses are designed to integrate themselves into System Restore, so if you do try to pull that trick, you'll wipe out the virus and then restore it immediately afterward, thus negating your attempt to remove it.

That means the virus didn't affect the restore points.

Yeah because I set the restore point to a date before i got the virus. So can't you pretty much undo anything?

Uh, that's not how it works. 30.gif

Windows creates restore points at certain dates/events. Those restore points are stored on the hard drive. So, if a virus infects your computer that is also designed to infect restore points, it also infects all of the restore points currently on the computer. So if you used system restore, you would also restore the virus.
