Is it possible to create actual islands in the expansion pack, destinations?

i was disappointed that I can't actually make them in the initial Simcity Societies.

I would really like to create a true ISLAND paradise, not some peninsula or coast..

thanks

Yes you can.

What you need to do is go into:

C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\SimCity™ Societies\Data\XMLDb\Game\Random Map

and open up RandomMap.xml with notepad.

Edit these slidervalues to:

  <Entry name="MinWaterSliderValue" value="0"/>

  <Entry name="MaxWaterSliderValue" value="99"/>

  <Entry name="MinSmoothingSliderValue" value="2"/>

  <Entry name="MaxSmoothingSliderValue" value="99"/>

  <Entry name="MinElevationSliderValue" value="2"/>

  <Entry name="MaxElevationSliderValue" value="99"/>

YMMV, but I found that setting the min values to 1 and the max values to 100 made my game unstable except for the minwaterslidervalue setting to zero which will give you a map with no water on it.

Basically that will give you more control over the map generation process.  You can also create maps outside of the game with a paint program and import it in as well.  You'll have to look around for instructions on that since I never used that feature.

You can also change you map size by changing the mapsize value to from 96 up to 1024 in 32bit incriments.  There are some caveats.  Small maps cannot have objects (like terrain features suck as rocks and mountains) that cross over the edge boundry or the map won't work.  Maps larger than 512 tax even powerful computers.  I have never had a map work above 1024.  Patch 4 broke creating custom maps, but I think they fixed it in patch 5 (but I'm not sure since I don't play Societies anymore).

Scroll down to panik-attak's entry and you should see nine pictures of an island that shows you an example of a Societies island.

    Thank you very much!

    I did what you suggested, and I made an island, but it is still not satisfactory in terms of lay out.. it's very basic and small.

    I would like to customize my island more, so I can make it have larger hills, more landmass, etc.

    Is this easily done in Destinations?

    I imagine there should be an island feature.. considered that's the premise of the game. I just need a confirmation.

    Thanks!

    Also, are there more types of roads in Destinations?
