4 Flashing means that it can't read the audio/video cables in the back.

Well, you mostly likely need to update, your xbox 360, try telling microsoft something is messed up with your hardrive, if you can explain more-like the error i probably could help.

From the official article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906652

SYMPTOMS

loadTOCNode(1, 'symptoms');
All four lights on the Ring of Light (ROL) flash red on the front of your Xbox 360 console.

CAUSE

loadTOCNode(1, 'cause');
This issue may occur for one of the following reasons:
The audio-visual (AV) cable is not connected correctly or is not plugged in to your Xbox 360 console.
The console is not detecting the cable.
This issue does not occur if the AV cable is plugged incorrectly in to a television, stereo, or VCR.

Note This issue occurs only on Xbox 360 consoles that do not have a High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) AV port.

THINGS TO TRY

loadTOCNode(1, 'whattotry');
Here are some things that you can try to fix the issue or to determine what the cause is. If you cannot fix the problem yourself, please contact Xbox Customer Support. Visit http://www.xbox.com/support/contact (http://www.xbox.com/support/contact'>http://www.xbox.com/support/contact) for information about how to do this.

Make sure that the AV cable is connected correctly to your Xbox 360 console. To do this, disconnect the AV cable from your Xbox 360 console, and then firmly reconnect the AV cable to your Xbox 360 console.

Note When you plug the AV cable in to your Xbox 360 console, the cable meets slight resistance before it is fully inserted. If you do not fully insert the cable, all four lights will flash on the Ring of Light, or no video may be displayed on the screen. You know that the cable is fully inserted when the largest part of the connector is almost touching the case of the console.

For more information about how to connect the AV cable to your Xbox 360 console, click the following article numbers to view the articles in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

906144 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906144/) How to connect your Xbox 360 console to your TV or monitor using an Xbox 360 Composite AV Cable

Check to make sure that the AV cable is clean

loadTOCNode(2, 'whattotry'); If four red lights continue to flash, unplug the AV cable from the back of your console. Then, try wiping the metal area of the AV cable that plugs into the console. Do this by using a dry, soft, clean, chemical-free cloth. The metal area of the cable is the end that plugs into the console. Clean and wipe the metal area thoroughly, and then plug in the AV cable again.

Try another AV cable

loadTOCNode(2, 'whattotry'); If the AV cable is connected correctly but the four red lights are still flashing, try using a different AV cable if you have one available.

Additional support

loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); If the methods in the previous section did not resolve your problem, your console may have to be repaired. For more information about how to start the repair process online, please visit http://www.xbox.com/support (http://www.xbox.com/support), and then click Repair your console in the upper-right part of the Web page.
Note Online console repair service is currently not available in all countries and regions.
If you want to instead contact Xbox Customer Support directly, please visit http://www.xbox.com/support/contact (http://www.xbox.com/support/contact'>http://www.xbox.com/support/contact) for information about how to do this.[/]

hmm...my xbox runs fine...problem is I cant get a picture on the screen on our new TV. My dad thinks its because the cable is on SD and the Xbox on HD, and all the different singals are confusing the TV...any other ideas?

If it is your 5th xbox I'd guess that the problem isn't the xboxes or MS have just "repaired" your xbox 4 times and you've actaully got the same xbox as you originally had. Either that or something wrong with your TV/etc.

Nope, your TV should be able to take that SD signal and convert it to HD. Chances are its either not plugged in properly or you may need to buy a new cable (pick up component video cables if your 360 does not have HDMI - or use the VGA port instead - you can pick up a spare VGA cable from many electronics stores for cheap).

Also, check the resolution your 360's outputting at. Maybe it's not supported by your new TV?
