I have no idea why these boxes are appearing. The mod used to work just fine.  I've tried reinstalling and even told the mod to use only maxis trees, but I still get boxes.

 Anyone have any ideas?

Those brown boxes mean you don't have the necessary dependencies. In the description for the Street Side mod, take a look farther down. You will see a list of external dependent files that need to be downloaded and installed for correct functionality in the game.

Yes, but it also says "If you want to use Cycledogg's or Pegasus' trees, you also have to install the following files."

    I only specified Maxis trees.

I'd check if all the dependencies are installed. If anything, take everything out of your plugins folder, then only install the mod and its dependencies to test it. If it works out, then just manually drag in any other plugins you have that you know will not conflict.
