Angled Bridges

Is there ANY possibility to create angles bridges for our cities?  I'm sure there has to be some "work-around" for creating at least a 45 degree angle bridge as opposed to having all bridges running the typical and somewhat "straight lines we're reduced to using.  I've looked all over and can't seem to see or see talked about this.

Any help would be appreciated, or comments as to why or why not.  Thanks

Do you mean something like this 2.gif?

Bridges-15Feb001223759444.jpg

The rail bridge has been done with NAM Puzzle Pieces. The highway bridge start/end parts are also NAM Puzzle Pieces, whereas the 'bridge' part itself is pure elevated Maxis highway.

I'm aware that this is a workaround, and a tedious one as well. There is terraforming involved and the use of the 'setsealevel' cheat (for temporarily lowering the water level). Both causeways (I call them like that because these are not actually bridges as such) are fully functional and UDI-able though.

Well actually, yes, though I was thinking more coming off an angled stream or river edge, but this woul dowrk, despite the tediousness of putting it together with the NAM puzzle pieces, which I have.  Guess I should have looked more into what I have already, so let me try and see what I can come up with. I'll try and post a pic for the specific location I'm working and others, I'm "recreating" the Greater Chicago are so all along the CHicago River there are numerous bridegs that come across at vartious angles.  I like how you've done that.  Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Or maybe if its possible for NAM to creat new puzzle pieces...higher ones so it could look like a higher bridge? with a piece that could addapt to any land level. Is it possible?

Thats a good idea, especially for those of us (me) lacking in the terraforming skills of others.  I tried levelling the rivers along the way to shallow them up to no avail.

Here are my trouble spots I am dealing with, the roads andrails are "supposed" to come across the rivers tight at the angle of the bend, not straight across as they are here.

a true diagonal or curved bridge would be COOL!

Or a Bridge that was higher at one ent and lower at the other... Just like building on a slope but over water

It would eliminate the need for even shores

nihonkaranws: You mean the diagonal highway bridge?

    Here is what I've done:

First, start with an empty tile with a river. Now, make a small flat part as close to the waterline as possible, like shown in the picture below left.

Now, open the cheat console and type setsealevel 200 (works fine also without Buggi's cheat dll).

A big caveat: Using the cheat, it will destroy any bridges and tunnels you have already built in this tile! (the same as with 'reconcile edges')!

The tile will now look like in the right part of the picture.

    diag_1.jpg

Next, raise a diagonal line through the riverbed. Now that there is no water, it's much more easy to terraform this part.

The next picture shows the tile after saving, and before and after quitting and reloading it. The water is back to the old height (and won't destroy anything). You don't have to do this step, it's just for showing the effect.

    diag_2.jpg

Re-lower the water again (if you quit and reloaded). Then, lower the middle part about 8 meters (I used smoncrie's hole digging lots) and raise the shore part to make a smooth onslope transition possible . Now, build the onslope transitions and the elevated highway.

    diag_3.jpg

Connect everything and smooth the underwater slopes a bit. This is also a good opportunity to sculpt your shoreline to you liking, build underwater tunnels et al 2.gif. Save again, quit and reload.

    diag_4.jpg

Here is a bigger shot of the bridge.

    diag_5.jpg

Building bridges with puzzle pieces (like my rail bridge) is much easier, because puzzle pieces can be put (almost) everywhere, including water. This leaves only the terraforming part. There aren't any diagonal onslope pieces (yet ?) as with the highway, so I kind of had to curve the bridge.

Always remember though that these are no real bridges. It won't be possible for any water vehicle (this includes all ferries as well)  to pass underneath them.

    Hope this helps 1.gif

They are already in the making. 4.gif I'd figure it would be interesting to create diagonal elevated highway puzzlepieces just for this purpose. This should save you a lot of time when building something like that...
