Hi, I don't really like it that you have multiple cities/region that don't run at the same time. Is there a large map like in simcity 3000 so I can just run a big area to place my whole city in? 1.gif

Yep. If you want to make an entirely sucluded city all you have to do is play around with the config file. I would also think that the tile sizes in SC4 would be bigger than in SC3K.

to clarify, there is no way to combine any ammount of large cities to create one mega city tile. you can however play in one city if thats all you want to play in. mega city tiles are not possible in sc4

Well...you can't have any city tile that's larger than the largest one already in the game; for example, if you were looking for a single tile that was as big as 2x2 "large" city tiles, you can't do it because the size of cities is hard-coded into the game.  You can, however, have a single "large" city in a region.  All you'd have to do is play around with the config.bmp file, as simsmart said.

Actually, technically speaking, they're smaller.  A lot smaller.  To give an example: in both games, a "large" city tile is 256x256 grid squares.  However, in SC3K, a grid square was said to be 64m2, while in SC4, a grid square is 16m2.  So a large city tile in SC4 is, by distance, much smaller than one in SC3K.

    Never would have thought.

    @mike007ld: The *.bmp is found at C:\Users\#user#\Documents\SimCity 4\Regions\#region name#\config.bmp.

The actual editing is fairly simple, each pixel represents one small city tile. Therefore a large tile would be four by four pixels. Red pixels (if memory serves me right) represent small tiles, green (again, I would double check) represents medium tiles, and large tiles are blue. You can recolour the pixels with paint. I would assume that by adding black, you could create a lack thereof city tiles.

Masochist, are you sure about that?

AFAIK, one grid unit in SC4 has a length of 16m, thus one grid square will be (16m)2, which is 256m2. If the length of one SC3K tile is 8m, then a medium SC4 city tile (128x128 x256m2) would be about the size of the large SC3K city tile (256x256 x64m2)

    Now I'm a bit confused. Is it: 'large SC4 = large SC3K', or 'medium SC4 = large SC3K' ? 42.gif

simworld2:white = massive hole in a region too - or (in some cases - sometimes simcity will just mess up the elevation instead , but anyway you might be able to get it to work with a non sqaure that has no 4x4 sections that would turn into a big city get a massive hole too.(just use black or white))microsoft paint is probably the best program to use.

    ______________________________________________________________________________

lets see... I have posted this in a whole bunch of places - I'LL post this tutorial again:

ok - please stay with me here - it shows you how to terraform an entire region at once!!!

First - go into simcity and click the create new region , it doesn't matter the terrain. -

next : go into paint and figure out how large you want your region to be...

a large city should be 4x4 pixels of blue(make sure your using paint for this part.)

a medium city should be 2x2 pixels of green.

a small city should be 1x1 pixels of red.

let me tell you that (although you dont have to worry about this in paint)that each color should have there color value set to 255 and all other colors set to something other than 255(unless you want black) (red ,255 ,blue ,255 ,green,255)again - you can just use the colors on the bottom of paint which have simcity compatible color values.

heres an example of the maxis "san fransisco"region:

(moderators:although it is a bitmap , it is like 20x20 pixels or so;although it is tiny , if you want me to convert it-I can.)

    config.jpg

sorry for its small size - it is as its original(you can enlarge it.

after filling this in - check to see the resolution of your config file , then save it as "config.bmp"and it should be a 24 bit bitmap(this is very important.).

then try going to photshop or the gimp(here is a gimp link)

    http://sourceforge.net/project/downloading.php?groupname=gimp-win&filename=gimp-help-2-2.4.0-eng-setup.exe&use_mirror=internap

then create a new greyscale jpeg image and size it like this(this is also important)

multiply the resolution of your config.bmp file(width and hight separetly , other wise the pic would be huge)by 64 and add one , this should be you jpeg resolution.

create the jpg however you want(the darker the color , the lower the elevation , the gimp includes lots of usefull feutures for doing this.).

    save it when your done.

    then go back into simcity.

load another region and reload your new one to get simcity to use the new config file.

press CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+R and select your new jpeg image in the menu that pops up.

if you did everything right - it takes several minutes - but simcity will start creating your region.

    good luck.

(also... the gimp I linked is a windows version - so don't think I put linux software on simtropolis)

this may be a little much... but you and a few others might find it usefull.
