City broken

I had a city of 76,000, people, a great mass transit network, loads of both industrial and commercial jobs and a couple of highrises, but today when I loaded it it was broken. The population drops to 71,000 then remains static no matter how long I play the simulation. All mass transit stops are showing 0 efficiency, and I'm no longer paying for their maintenance even though the slider is at the top. Every single house is now showing a no job zots, demand for everything except R$ is at -6000, and my roads are completely unused.

I thought it might be the GLR to rail transition I downloaded today but another city that had some of those is working fine, and I've now uninstalled it, still not helping.

What has happened my city?

Yes I removed the glr to rail transition, I uninstalled the plugin completely, yet it hasn't fixed itself...could there be anything else wrong?

Yes, I deleted the one rail to glr transition after uninstalling. I let the simulation run and the population dropped from 71,000 to 6,000, then started to grow again/ My roads are working as normal, but loads of houses still have no job zots over them, and my mass transit stops are all at 0% efficiency, all the symbols greyed out, nobody using them.

Try demolishing a mass transit lot and rebuilding it, and see what happens.

What's the commercial population of the city? If it's less than 6000, expect to see no-job zots.

commercial population is 41,000, industrial 18,000, more jobs in neighbouring cities. Demoloshing works but I have 100+ bus stops and a tram network that would require me to trear down half my city to rebuild, so that's not practical...

What's going on here, is that since your transit network has been "corrupted," so to speak, citizens are unable to get to their jobs. Resulting in the no-job zots, resulting in the mass residential exodus you witnessed. Unfortunately in this kind of situation, the only way to fix it is to rebuild the transit network. It's an odd quirk with SC4. Other people have found this to be the only way to actually rectify problem.

In the future, remember to make a test city and make sure to test out new lots/mods in that city first. It can prevent these kinds of painful situations from occurring.
