A growth stage is a limit placed on the types of buildings that will develop based on factors such as population, water, education, etc. To start, for instance, low density residential will develop as trailers and small family houses. As you reach the next 'stage', those houses will be upgraded to bigger single family homes, and eventually, in the third stage, into duplexes, with two houses per lot. The same goes for commercial and industrial buildings. Stages is the process by which lots become more dense after certain city conditions are met.

You should also know that there are demand caps in the game, where all development of a type will stop until the 'pressure' is released and the cap removed so growth can keep going. I'm not sure what all the caps and thier releasers are, so someone else can fill in those blanks or point you to the thread most helpful. Hope this helps, and welcome to Simtropolis!

Hey devon1117, I'm new here too and I've been playing Sim City my whole life (SC4 since it came out of course) and I've never heard of a growth stage either.

xxbydesign's comment on demand caps has me curious too. I've looked for a complete explanation on it, but haven't been able to find it on the forums anywhere. I'd be curious for a more complete explanation.

The caps can be found as part of a mod in either the Modds section or on the STEX. I'll try to find a link.

More about stage limits can be found at SC4Devotion, or just click here.

@Phoenix: I guess you mean the Super Demand Ordinance. You can get it here2.gif

@Geronimo: No, it was something from the STEX, it adjusted the caps and also provided the originals. I think RippleJet's thread has the same info however.
