    Hey dzi,

first of all thanks alot for your map! It's really great and very accurate! I layed a satellite map over it to figure out the scale and the positioning of the different buildings. Unfortunatly I did this after starting my city and I've already created financial district and Greenwich / Midtown. However I will use this satellite image for further developments. Thank you aswell for the WorldWind link, but as an Apple user I'm unable to download the programm...

My satellite map of New York, on the right side you see the rest of your map and you see it's really accurate! Great work!

Well now the answers to you questions:
    - my config.bmp is a pure blue one wich creates 25 large cities, 256x256 tiles each. My Manhattan is not divided because I modified your map and cropped it to 1281x1281 pixel. I had to do so, because my Macintosh version only accept this size. So I cut of New Jersey and so my Manhattan not divided.
    - I tried to copy Honolulu, HI by playing it and I discovered a very more intense development, so I host over 1.2 mio. sims in a large city there, which is still not completly developed and I still have high requests for residential and commercial space - I don't reach this in my NYC
    - Well your financial district is also in excellent scale, but it's difficult to create the Manhattan Bridge, becaus it's diagonal and in my map it will cross over a city border. Actually in my city the financial district is not perfectly build and I have to recreate it.
    - Industrial zones are a problem for me too! I added some more industrial on the Upper East Side and along Hudson River. The problem is that Simcity will not interact between the cities effectly. So if you have large industrial parks in Queens (as in reality) they have no effect on the surrounding cities like Manhattan. However I just added some more zones and large industrial buildings with alot of jobs, like the New Inc. Aerospace Division.
    - Traffic is definetly a problem in SC4! I tried to solve it by adding street busstops and taxi stands all over the city. All avenues have busstops on each block and all the streets have taxistands on each block. That is also alot of traffic in the streets, but as in the real New York you have alot of yellow cabs in the streets.

Allthough you do not have an CJ so far, maybe you could post some pics of your city right here. I'm very interested in your version of Brooklyn and Queens.

    Next screenshots will come soon...

First of all, and it's very important, I wasn't the one who created the map. Menno made it and all the credit goes to him 1.gif What I did was only cropping it to the 28km size, so I didn't do anything more than you by cropping the NJ out 2.gif And speaking about Menno's maps of NY, they are the best ones and that's why I use them too. I mean just check out the 60km one with staten island and a BIG NJ side, where you can make all the transportation thingis and the industrial part. Unfortunatelly my computer can't handle it neither.
So once again, big up Menno!

I'm still not sure about financial district. Check out the city plan and note how many streets you have there. My financial is like 30-50 (have to count it at home) tiles. I don't know, I had some problems with it. And problems with bridges and tunnels are big, that's true... One thing I screwed up completely was dividing manhattan in such way that I can't place the WTC where is should be! 15.gif
BTW, You might want to check the chinatown lots from STEX 1.gif

Street busstops simply are allover the city in reality too 1.gif I have some bus maps 2.gif I was living in NY (Ridgewood, Queens) for 6 weeks 2.gif
As for my screenshots, I have like 100k of population there so it's really not worth it for now 1.gif I think I'll make a CJ but after it will get some population.
Generally speaking major problem for me are the demands, mostly because of lacks of industrial... And I'm not sure if I want to use those custom buildings you use... That's why I'm kinda stucked now... (and the WTC additionally to that! 30.gif).

And generally, what intrests me most is the transit routes. I'd love to see brooklyn working as in reality, meaning moving hundrets of thousands of people to manhattan every morning. Post some more screenshots, traffic ones especially 1.gif

Be carfeull with those streetop bus stops, they have a very low capacity and can cause major congestion, also seems like sims like to get off and transfer buses a lot! I would like to see a plugin of Penn station and Port authority, most of the major mass transit lots on the STEX have a very low capacity and while they may be visually intreseting their lack of accomodating high passenger loads makes them somewhat useless. And good luck with the mac, i also use a mac!

good luck! new york's a popular city to make, but few make it accurately - it looks like u're off to a great start and i def. look forward to ur work - i've been just trying to work on the scale model of manhattan for simcity, using real-world zoning guides, street by street. the hardest part i found was downtown manhattan, since the streets (assuming u're basing midtown on the horizontal/vertical axis) rn't even on 45 degree angles. makes the bridges and highways hard to do too. but yeah, def. keep posting, i def. wanna see how it comes out!

just a couple of points for ya, since the boroughs extend numerous city squares u might want to rename some of ur cities - e.g. queens as long island city/jackson heights/etc., brooklyn as brooklyn heights or flatbush, etc. haha i never heard of barette point - more popular names for taht area can be astoria, riker's island, astoria - but then again, i dun go to the bronx that much.

Great journal, gp!! One of the better New York ones I've seen so far, no doubt. Especially appreciate the satellite maps, very informative. Keep it up!

Would like to see more of major New York landmarks, if you're using them. Either way, love the journal! I will be checking regularly. Looking forward to more excellent work.

PS. Also dzi - great comments and support. Thanks for helping with this CJ to keep it up and runnin.

Hey man looks good cant wait to see more screen shots. As for adding authenticy i like the WTC looks very good! Remeber that there are mostly midrise buildings from about like 28th st to downtown with occasional high rises so youre use of medium residential and town houses would be very accurate in this area. Also I wonder if you will be creating some of the parks like madison park, uniuon square, wash park etc. Anyway would you like some actual pictures from the city? Id really be intrested in seeing how you incorporate penn station and the port authority! Also the bridges can be improved over time. New york wasnt built in a day! and im sure when the first bridges were built it looked very rough and not so landscaped!
Good work cant wait to see more!

After a long time haven't been here and haven't posted I have today a bad message to tell: A horrible computer crash quits my upcoming SC4 activities! By recieving more and more complications with my hardware and more and more system freezes I now found out the problem, its a combined conflict of a new DVD burner, an installed software and SimCity... Yes! I couldn't believe it, but the best computer game so far will make my Apple crashs. Yeah, I just hear you laughing: Why gaming on an Apple? Well I think there is no difference and I heard about so many problemes while playing SC under Windows - so don't mess me up with that!
What happend? Cause I have to finish a high payed and time and hardware intensive project I needed a fast and secure solution. So I deinstalled the software, SimCity and the DVD burner and my system runs well. So I thought I could reinstall SC4 but that effects some crashes again so I leave it uninstalled.
Well this actually quits my NYC city plans. Although I saved all plugins and cities I don't know if I will be able to fulfill this project within the next months. So after completing three big cities and just reached two pages in this CJ I will it here! I thank you for your attendence, your support and your comments and hope to see you soon again in a new CJ...

My upcoming project will be a accurate copy of german Cologne - a city I know even better than New York... 2.gif

    Best regards and good playing...
