City disappeared

Not sure what happened but I clicked save and it lagged for about 20 seconds then closed to desktop. none of my other cities are affected right now...

The city is gone in the region view although the file is still showing in the My Documents/Regions/ folder (Lakeview West, notice the name is floating not really on top of a city?)

I have been playing this game on and off since it was released and never saw this before...

any help would be appreciated

Can you actually click on the city to select it at all? If you can then just try either going into it and saving again, or importing a copy of the file you have on disk.

If you can't click on it then that is a different problem. I have seem some forum posts with similar problems but I can't remember what the solution was.

If all else fails, then perhaps render a new copy of the region map, and import a copy of each city one by one. (Maybe start with the broken one, so that you know if the problem is going to continue before you import all the others)

Maybe also check the config.bmp hasn't been corrupted.

Nope city cannot be selectaed... its as if it just disappeared...

config.bmp is fine...

I will see if it will render a new one with the old config.bmp to see if it works...

edit: had some time to play with it... if I remove that city's file then the region replaces it with a blank flat city.... so I guess that one city's file is corrupted somehow...

the same thing happened to me my friend, back when it was my greatest at only 600,000. but that was before i found out all the beautiful modds and downloads on simtropolis. this is waht happened, your game had a file leak and now your poor city is flying around in cyberspace somewhere, its unreatrveivable . i'm deeply sorry and i feel your pain.

yep, I found that the lag on my fairly decent system was caused by the hardware rendering setting.... I learned that any computer with a PCI Express video card performs hundreds of times better when the options are set to software rendering. Since I switched it, the game has been running perfect... I rebuilt that city on the flat land it gave me and it is doing great..

system specs:

Core2 E6600 dual core

2GB DDR2-1066

GA-EP35-DS3P motherboard, SATA 3.0Gb HD

ATI 256MB X1950GT PCIe video card

XP Pro SP3

So the hardware rendering setting caused the lag which corrupted my city...

Indeed, that city is gone. I've found that if SC4 gets interrupted while saving a city, the city gets corrupted which results in a hole in it's place.

I had this happen as well but my city was around 25k and when it would CTD after or during saving it would keep going back to the save file that had 8k sims don't know why

Looking at others, it seems to be mostly ATI/AMD cards but a few nvidia PCIe cards may also be affected...

my region is almost to 1mil so it is running nicely now...
