A really ***** question..

Greetings All,

First post!

Okay, so I recently got my SC4 disc back down off the shelf, dusted it off and re-installed the game. Now I'm going to ask what will probably be a spectacularly stoopid question, which will also probably get me flamed by the purists among you...

Is there a mod or addon or something which will give me a free-build version of the game? I don't want to 'play' the game at the moment, just build a work-of-art city! I want to pick from any of the original buildings myself, and not have them change later on. I want a completely unrestricted SimCity sandbox to play in!

I've only got the basic SC4, so possibly this option is available in one of the expansions...?

Great site, BTW, some of the city journals are exceptional!

This is actually a good question, since it has never been done due to technical restrictions.

In the ST-Exchange I think you can download all of the RCI buildings as plopable lots, I think that you need rush hour for it though

A few years ago, a mod was created to allow exactly this.

(you'll have to copy/paste the URL, links haven't been working)

Get ready for a lot of scrolling, though. 450+ buildings are added to your landmark menu.

Also, and this is very important: Residential buildings that are plopped will not generate traffic, meaning they will not go to work. The way to get around this is to first zone residential, let it grow, then plop over it. The new building will use the commute routes for the old one.

Also, it is possible that it might not work. I'm about 95% it will work on SC4 without Rush Hour, but I could be wrong.

One more thing: nobody's gonna flame you.   Lots of people plop buildings...I mostly zone but I'll plop a few building here and there.  Around here, nobody will flame you for how you choose to enjoy the game.

All custom buildings and most mods created require the Rush Hour expansion to work, so unless you get it or get the SC4 Deluxe (which is both the vanilla SC4 and Rush Hour combined in one nifty package) you are limited to the vanilla ingame stuff, mostly.

I believe I read somewhere that the "extra cheats DLL" offers a "plop anything" mode and a money cheat...and you can use automata generators to create traffic.

Pretty much all of the foregoing comments need update1 available to product registered users at the home site, and the Rush Hour expansion pack. 

And yes you can do it with the plop RCI mod.  Then if you want a totally free hand use the extra cheats .dll mentioned in one of the pinned topics above.
