Where is the Radical cusom special in NAM?

I've loaded the NAM into my city, and like the help-page suggested, I looked for "Radical Custom Special" in the dropdown menu to turn it on....but there was no phrase like that. Does it happen automatically now in newer versions?

I notice that all my commute times still seem long.

Which NAM version are you using? I think the Radical option was removed from the NAM (newest version or last) because of the effects it had on the game that the NAM team discovered. There are different traffic options, now, that you are able to choose from when installing. Don't just 'click' through. Hope this helps...

I think it may have gotten removed or merged with another feature.

I think someone who works on NAM would have to chime in.

The Radical automata options are for the appearance of vehicles in the game. It was the Radical traffic controller option that was removed and replaced by the different traffic control options available currently. Below is from NAM June 2007. It is not available in April 2008.

Ah, ok.

What problems did it cause exactly for it to get removed?

I don't remember if it was a problem or just considered unrealistic and other controllers were developed. There was an ongoing discussion about it at SC4Devotion. Perhaps someone who has more info might peek in here...

Found this from a post there...

What are NAM_Traffic_Plugins intended to do?

Well, there are two Central "cores" named A and B for lack of a better identifier.  These two Central Cores have both been mathematically designed to re-balance the structure of the Simulators.  With new information discovered by Mott from investigations he preformed the previous Simulators have been found to be harmful to the game in some cases.  Not only were the old NAM Simulators found to be flawed, but also the Vanilla Simulator from MAXIS was found to have flaws in it as well.  These two Cores have been designed to limit and/or remove these flaws, as well as expand on ideas MAXIS had that simply were not implemented or not implemented properly.quote>

So I ended up enabling pretty much every option in the April 2008 NAM- would that mean that I have the 're-calculated commuter paths' (which was what I was particularily looking for) in there....somewhere?
