i have tried some tutorials here, and at a moment, when it comes to zoning, they tell you to hold down Ctrl so you can size and orientate the parcel. well i certainly do that, but nothing happens. when i put industrial all the lots merge into a giant one, making small 1x1 factories to appear, instead of bigger ones as expected.
is this featured exclusive of Rush hour? becuase i dont have the expansion...

Hello kazetuner,

Yes - some of the parcelization functions - do require Rush Hour (or SimCity 4 Deluxe) to work.

Ctrl - controls size.

Alt - controls/changes orientation (if the lot is on a corner).

Shift - controls/suppresses auto-streets.

However - for Industrial Lots - you shouldn't be seeing (don't want to see) the "parcelization" lines-and-arrows that you normally will see with residential or comercial lots. Given time, a high enough density, and the proper services (especially power and water) - your small industrials will be replaced with larger ones.

You can use the 'ctrl' and 'alt' keys for some control industrial zones, but the arrows facing the roads don't appear until you let go of the mouse button. So, you kind of have to do it a section at a time depending on the plan you want. And you may have to guess and check until you get used to it (I did). Using 'ctrl' makes the zone a single unit (similar to res. and com.). Using 'alt' with 'ctrl' rotates the zone 90 degrees provided there is a road that direction. Hope this helps...

I recommend against doing this - as it tends to limit the industrial potentials of the parcels - as in certain out (puzzle piece?) buildings won't be built. And this appears to decrease the value of the parcel to certain Sim Industrial Developers.

True, but if you wanted a section of the same industrial lot for some reason, it makes it easier.

    Such as...

... and there would be more micro-managing of industry needed.

Oh, yes, not trying to start an argument - just throwing this out there 2.gif.
