I have quite a lot of crime in one of my cities.  The whole city is covered by police stations, and I'm running neighborhood watch and school sports ordinances, which are supposed to reduce crime.  The population is mostly R$$ and R$$$.  There is quite a lot of dilapidation around, but curiously, not in the worst areas -- that may just mean that there's nobody living in those areas to commit crimes!

Is there anything else I can do to reduce crime?

well, if you're providing all that stuff, maybe you want to check you have enough jails. Thats the only thing I can think of. I fyou have enough jails, then somethings wrong. You can check if you have enough cells on jails by querying the existing jails or just plop some

If you are running the legalize gambling ordinace, stop. The ordinace doesn't provide much money and does increase crime. The crime levels aren't huge, but it will help.

What type of police stations are you using? Are they all the same? Try placing one of the big stations with the helicopter, this also helps to reduce some crime, though costs more and takes up a bit more space.

What is the population of your city? And what is the exact rate of crime?

Thanks for the interest and the advice. I think I've solved it now. I also had a lot of traffic congestion in my city, which I've greatly reduced. The crime level also dropped sharply. Can't say I understand why traffic would result in high crime levels, but at least the problem's over and my Sims are all happy, happy, happy as a pig in you-know-what!

Thanks for the advice. I do love the way people on this forum are always so eager to help!

I've found that a poor educational system will promote crime. Kepp your schools well funded and place plenty of libraries, museums, etc. Also, the attentiveness of the default police stations is rather low. You should use a mod to increase it, such as this.
