The movie was well researched and it really does put Earth into perspective.

You made that?     I agree with Red1530:  it really puts things in perspective.

We can inspire others through witness so that one grows together in communicating. But the worst thing of all is religious proselytism, which paralyzes: “I am talking with you in order to persuade you.” No. Each person dialogues, starting with his and her own identity. The church grows by attraction, not proselytizing.    - Pope Francis

Interesting little movie.

Although, there's a key peice of information that's left out: those comparisons are by mass, not by volume. The sun is indeed just shy of 333 times as massive as Earth, but it's about 1.3 million times the size of Earth. This discrepancy stems from the fact that the sun is entirely gas (well, supercritical fluid a.k.a. "plasma", technically) while the Earth is amost entirely solid.

Also, what is this Metacafe thing? Something wrong with YouTube?

Very good indeed.

Of course the earth in terms of the galaxy is nothing, I also, as mentioned in another thread fail to see the reasoning behind the belief some have that out of hundreds of billions of possible planets we are the only one to have intelligent life.

I know some like to think that earth is obviously the most important thing in the universe. I disagree. I love planet earth and its people (on most occasions) but we are by no means alone and the sooner we find out the better.

You never know if there are other intelligent life in other planets. Earth isn't the most important thing in the universe (The Sun is more important than Earth, duh), nothing is.

The problem is, our chances of finding other life are very very small. The message wouldn't even get to the nearest star, Proxima Centauri, (which is 4.22 light-years away) for a looong time. Then what are the chances that this life has the equipment to recieve/ send messages? I dunno...I'm sure there is life, it's just our chances of making contact seem very small.

Anyways, that video certainly does show our insignificant size.

Returning soon[ish] from a long time away...

Metacafe has ads before the videos.

Ads which prevent the video from loading if you try and adblock them, to boot.

    Therefore, Youtube>Metacafe.

And since when is Youtube a community? Seems like nothing more than a place to post videos to me...

Is any of that even relevant? I honestly don't think so.

Great video my friend, I really enjoyed it!

It's not the size of the planet that matters, it's the motion of its oceans.

But yes, Earth is small even compared to other planets in our solar system... except for Pluto, but we don't talk about him anymore.
