So after many months of not playing SC4, I decided to click that 'Simcity 4 Deluxe' icon in my desktop. To my surprise after the bridge splash screen I get a supposed 'Protection Error. Error: 103". Here's a pic , but I don't think it'll be of much help.

First of all, my computer specs:

Windows XP SP2

Pentium 4 Prescott 3.2 Ghz HT

1 Gb DDR RAM

Virtual memory set at 2 Gb minimum 4 Gb max.

Video Card, ATI Radeon 9600 Pro

Yeah my computer is old

Ok, here's the things I did after I got that error:

Shutdown all background processes except my antivirus and the catalyst control center (vidoe card). Nothing.

Uninstalled Daemon tools and rebooted (Since it's a 'protection error' I guess it went crazy because daemon tools was there). Nothing.

I uninstalled the vista pack and all the apps related to it, then reverted to the normal XP theme, reboot, and still the error.

I got rid of everything in the Simcity 4 folder in my docs, still nothing.

Finally, I reinstalled Simcity 4 completely, and still I get the error.

I'm stuck and don't know what else to do, and I'm definitely not going to reinstall the entire OS, and using a crack to bypass the protection is out of the question.

Any ideas?

Hmmm.. well that pc should be able to run SC4 just fine (though with slowdowns as it gets to larger cities and or plugins) .. I am not sure about the protection error.. I am not sure it is even an SC4 error.. it suggests to me that it is a OS or hardware error.. I'm not sure.. Do you get any problems with any other software?

Nope, it only happens to Simcity. I run the exe, the splash screen with the bridge appears and after some seconds it vanishes the error pops up. I suspect that the protection mechanism simcity has is failing, but I can't think of any reason for that.

Oh, and I've ran Simcity before in this machine and nicely, even with a 2 Gb plugin folder.

i have an idea of what it may be. since u had daemon tools installed on your PC, more than likley it has damaged the CD Drive. it has been known to happen with daemon tools and other software of the like. my suggestion would be to buy a new CD drive, and see what happens.

what daemon tools does, is fool the CDROM drive into thinking the disks are their, when they aren't messing up the i/o chipset in the CD Drive.
