Wow, this is looking really real.  Can we see some close ups of Downtown or Mission Valley maybe?

I've built up downtown a lot more than it actually is.  There was (and still is) such a huge demand for all catagories of residential (especially R$ & R$$) that I had to zone most of it high density.. it makes for better aestetics anyway.  I'll post some pics soon...

Here's two pics of the Mission Valley area featured between I-8, SR163, and I-5... shown below.

    Fashion Valley
Completely renovated in 1997, this elegant outdoor mall is your best stop for serious shopping in San Diego. Less tourist-like than the flamboyant and exciting Horton Plaza, this mall is much easier to navigate. It is the main hub for upscale and designer shopping. Exclusive names like Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue are among the department stores. With 200 stores, seven restaurants, a food court and a movie theatre, even the most discriminating shoppers will find what they are looking for, including foreign currency exchange.

I'm not sure what happened to altoonporter.com where some of the pics were at.  So here is a different pic, I'll still be looking on the 'net for other pics.

Hotel Circle near the Riverwalk Golf Club
Hotel Circle, this section of town offers motels and hotels from most major chains, including San Diego Mission Valley Hilton , San Diego Marriott Mission Valley , Days Inn and many others. Views tend to be of the hotels on the other side of the valley or the overdeveloped interior of the valley itself. All of the inns are close to shopping centers, restaurants and transportation.

I searched on the internet for freeways signs and I found a few.  Took me only but a few seconds.

Here's a snapshot I took last week when I meant to post an update but got caught up soon afterwards.  This area is of Serra Mesa near the 163 & 805 intersect.

Here is it in real life:

    Looking good!

Just FYI, at the end of Genessee is actually a Juvinelle Detention Facility (like a jail), it goes from about Birmingham to about Nightingale on Medowlark.

There's also the family/juvinile court there, and a gas station, as well as the medical facilities.

Very, very accuarate other than that one detail.  (Though I have no idea how you'd make it really look legitimate.)

I'll be sure to change up the end of Genesee to include a jail (better that than nothing).  Also, the naval air & army base on Coronado is not complete, I just plopped it so I wouldn't forget later  2.gif

When I do finish up that area I'll get some pics in... the army base is R$ housing mostly, I have to figure out a way to just get R$ and only a little bit of R$$ to build on that portion of the island before I will be satisfied.  It will be done (unlike Alameda) though...

Finally another update.. sorry it's been so long.. my job has actually picked up quite a bit of business as these interest rates have started to go up... anyway...

I've been playing a lot of SC4 (all though my CJ might not reflect that) in my spare time, I have a good chunk of it finished so I'll have quite a few updates in the upcoming weeks.  But for now...

    Downtown San Diego
Less than three miles from the airport is downtown proper. This thriving commercial area with its active waterfront is a bustling, colorful combination of major hotels, convention facilities, restaurants, nightclubs and shopping venues. Its focal point is Horton Plaza, an architectural masterpiece built during the mid-1970s that holds trendy shops, lively restaurants, a theatre and even an ice rink during the holiday season. Just east of Horton Plaza is the Gaslamp District, a 16-block source of civic pride. Once slated for destruction, this area has been reclaimed by the people of San Diego thanks to the 1970s Redevelopment Plan. Where once dilapidated warehouses and run-down Victorian houses stood, and where no one dared to enter after dark, the Gaslamp District has now become the pulse of the city.

(I'll be using Cobb's Sea Village to recreate Seaport Village soon)

Downtown San Diego is not that built up near the water.  But it was getting hard for the neighboring cities to sustain a large population so naturally downtown had to expand vertically.  I'll post a wide angle in city picture later this evening.  Enjoy for now.

    Seaport Village

Located on San Diego's Embarcadero, Seaport Village offers tourists and residents shopping, restaurants and gorgeous views of water and ships.  There are 57 shops and galleries, four restaurants and 13 sidewalk eateries to enjoy in this reproduction of a 100-year old seaside village.  The area is close to downtown hotels and attractions like The Maritime Museum and the new Midway carrier museum.

One of the village's main attractions is the Broadway Flying Horses Carousel, it was built in 1890 as a Coney Island attraction.  The carousel is fully restored and includes a restored 52-key, 175-pipe organ built in Germany in 1914.

Seaport Village is open every day and during the summer stays open until 10 pm. There are four miles of walkways to enjoy between window shopping and dining. Music concerts and other events are often part of the scene as well.

    Balboa Park
No visit to San Diego would be complete without a trip to Balboa Park . Home to the world-famous San Diego Zoo , the park is much more than a beautiful place to see exotic animals. Gardens and grounds in Balboa Park were established as a city park for the people in 1868. In preparation for hosting the Panama-California Exposition of 1915, a celebration of the opening of the Panama Canal, founding fathers, architects and master gardeners collaborated to create the fine Spanish Colonial Revival-style buildings and gardens that still grace the grounds today. Additional building were raised on the site in the early 1930s, this time incorporating the look and feel of the Mayan civilization and California's early indigenous peoples. Within the confines of the park, visitors can enjoy scores of museums and art galleries including the Aerospace Museum, the San Diego Automotive Museum, Timken Museum of Art and the Spreckel's Organ Pavillion.

I wish I could've put in the California Tower , or the California Building .  It's one of the most visible landmarks within Balboa Park, you can see it from many parts of the cities high hilly areas as well.  Beautiful Spanish-Renaissance architecture.  Maybe I'll put in a BAT request...

Yeah I like the Balboa Park area a lot too.. too bad there aren't many (if any) spanish colonial architecture buildings in the BAT.  Here's a few pics from around Balboa Park.

i don't mean to comment every time you post, but that Balboa Park is freaking fantastic.  not only is it my favorite place in the Real SD, it's probably one of my favorites in yours too.

if you get a chance i'd love to see what you're doing with La Jolla, those hills have been driving me nuts.  1.gif

    Old Point Loma Lighthouse

The Old Point Loma Lighthouse sits atop the end of Point Loma about 422 feet above sea level.  For 36 years, beginning in 1855, the light welcomed ships and sailors into San Diego Bay.  Built of local sandstone with a squat tower, the lighthouse was home it its keeper and his family as well as beacon. However, the lighthouse had one drawback, it was often lost in the fog swirling around the headland of Pt. Loma.

The new Point Loma lighthouse was built at the bottom of the hill closer to the water's edge in 1891 and the old Point Loma Lighthouse was retired.

The National Parks Service has refurbished the building to its original 1880s decor.  Tourists can climb to the top of the tower, and see the same spectacular views the lighthouse keeper saw each night when he lit the beacon.  The original lighthouse was one of the first on the California coast and was also the highest in the country.

Today, the old lighthouse is part of the Cabrillo National Monument and offers guests a chance to see how life was lived in the latter part of the 19th century in San Diego.

I'll post some pics of the North Island Naval Air Station, but I turned the 32nd St Naval Station into a dirty industrial seaport area with base housing around it, no military influences there

For the USS Midway, I'll check to see if the Aircraft Carrier Lot by PEG will fit, but the scale could be a little big for this version of SD.

Now only if I could figure out a way to do the 4th of July fireworks all over the bay...

Here's the regional progress I've made so far.  I've expanded a ways to the east, to La Mesa at one point and to National City int he south... but it's not as complete as this part of San Diego.

I haven't been playing an incredible amount of time on San Diego, but I did manage to play it for a few more weeks from the last update and I do plan on concluding this CJ by finishing the entire region.  I have a side project that I am working on now in my spare time to break up the monotony of suburbs, more of a high density/medium density city but not one of those concrete jungles.

Thanks to this nifty program called Region Census (found at SCC) I have an update.  It's a regional shot, shocker.

Click on the pics to see the normal sized 2034x1044 shot.
