What's wrong with my Environment?

I just started a city, and the Environment is all the way in the red. I'm not sure why - I only have 1000 residents, one power plant (which isn't anywhere near the residential area), and plenty of trees in undeveloped areas. I have a landfill for garbage, but there's hardly anything in it.

Is there any way I can boost my Environment?  Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

This problem always happen when you first starting to build your city. The Environment bar adds up all of the polluting in your city, even the polluting buildings far away from the devoloped area. To get it green, place the powerplant and the landfill in another city with the dirty and manufactering industrial building.

Remember, pollution NEVER travel between cities' borders in SC4. That would allow you to build a clean city and a dirty city next to each others.

hmm or just switch to farms instead of industry but it only works for small cities

The environment meter is silly. In a functional, mostly clean city it's usually still red all the way. So i just don't care about it. It doesn't really matter.
