Hi ive been playing simcity4 for a few weeks now after shelfing the disc several months back and have lost my creative nack for city creation. Do you guys have any tips on how to expand/further develop my city without disturbing the balance too much. As you can see this city is a bit of mulch of residntial/agricultural/commercial and also need help on how to segregate and grow distinct zones. thanks.

1 - Put trees will be good.

2 - New BATs for your city!

You will learn that it´s impossible to live without them.

3 - Diversity is a pretty thing.

But certainly zones are don´t "compatible".

If you put industries behind houses, you have abandoned houses. For farm, the same thing.

To improve the pretty of your city,i recommend to you create in one place farm;in other, industries;in other, commerce and house.

Industries and farm always needs trees as commerce and house needs parks.

4 - Medium density residentials grows early. You can zone medium density and have a economy of space.

5 - I think omnibus can really help you.

It will be good for you see and read some topics of this area:

    Hi,

I totally agree with the_sanderson regarding the basics. Additionally, you might want to check out different CJs to let them inspire you. Moreover, I can recommend Google Earth and live.local to see how real cities are arranged, how they differ from zone to zone (and also from wealth levels), and what they are surrounded by. I recommend using different types of road-grids, meaning that you only shouldn't go for the orthogonal one, but also for some diagonal parts. Especially outskirts and suburban areas are consisting of small housing communities and neighborhoods.

Hope I could help and enjoy playing and building,

    lucky7

edit: update ive taken your advice and plotted agriculture and heavy industry to one side of my city with my commerical intwined with my residential plots. its working so far and have had no traffic problems and now support two frieght stations, one north and one to the south to free up roads from frieght trucks.

how should i approach an expansion to the east of my city? should i plot a whole new 'city' to the east and develop it seperate from the west first?
