Pretty new to modding and lots related with SC4. Just a week ago I never knew there was all this stuff available, I thought SC4 had a dead community.

Anyways, I'm having issues using mods. I've downloaded a few, like a Rock mod and the Digging Mod, and extracted them to my plugins file, but I can't find out where they are or how to use them in-game. And a lot of the lots I downloaded from the simcity.com exchange don't show up on my menus. I'm so confused. Help is much appreciated.

Hello Drew_445,

First Tip - please, pay attention to documentation on what you are downloading -

Lots may be either growable or ploppable;

growable lots will be built by your sims, when they think the time is right;

ploppable lots will have an icon (somewhere - usually with landmarks or parks)

that will allow you to place them, just like any other civic building.

The Documentation should tell you which type (growable or ploppable) the lot is,

for growables - the conditions needed for it to grow,

and for ploppables - where to find the lot's icon.

Second tip - rule modds vs modded lots -

for modded lots - please see the first tip (above);

rule modds will change the rules of the game -

but won't give you a lot (neither growable nor ploppable).

The NAM (Network Addon Modd) being an exception -

as it includes both rule modds and transit network pieces.

Please enjoy the game,

-NetPCDoc

    Thanks for the help!

    I'm still a little in the muddle, though. With the rock mod, I can't find where I can place that rock. Also, I'm wanting to know a good way to make bodies of water. The only way I know right now is to make a shallow valley low enough it turns to water, then smooth the edges.

    I did unzip every mod I downloaded.

    The readme tells me nothing of how to place or get that rock.

    And is there a different way to make bodies of water? Salt water?

    Thanks

    If you're usig one of PEG's rock mods, the rock should just appear on areas of rough terrain. As for bodies of water, I do not know of any other way...of course, there are also water mods.

    procedure

    1. Right click on the Zip. folder

    2. Left click Extract All option

    3. It will give you the option to browse your C drive. You'll want to make sure you unzip the file to the proper place:

        click the browse button in the zip window.

        click C drive

        click Programs Files

        click Maxis folder

        click SimCity4 folder

        click plug-ins folder and then click okay and extract it there.

    Your done!

    OR:

        click My Documents

        click SimCity4 folder

        click Plug-ins folder and click okay and extract it there.

    Your Done!

    You should see the features the modd gives you, within your game after that.

    You can change the colors and texture/appearance of your game generated water, by searching the STEX for Water Modd.

    You can also, create nice lakes and ponds with PEG's Puzzle piece ponds and streams modd. Waterfalls too!

    Look for Pegasus under the Top Uploaders pane on the STEX

    Just one beer and I can't be beat. Just a whole case and I can't remember, who beat me up.

    Hello Drew_445,

    Yes, unlike some, I saw:

    extracted them to my plugins file,quote>

    As stated above - if you write of Pegasus rock modd -

    the rocks will show up when the conditions are right

    (in this case - I believe - this is when you have the proper terrain formations).

    Unlike earlier versions of SimCity - SimCity 4 did not come with ploppable surface water, so (without a modd - of one kind or another) the only way to get water to show - is to lower the terrain until it appears. I highly recommend doing as much of this in God Mode as possible.

    If your looking for modds - there are a few ploppable canal systems -

    Pegasus's Streams and Ponds -

    and the SC4 Terraformer Tool (to do region - vs city - wide terrain alterations).

    Please enjoy the game,

    -NetPCDoc
