Problem installing SC4

My computer had a crazy blue screen of death and stop error, and I had to reinstall Windows. That killed all my regions and everything, so I'm trying to reinstall now. But I've got a problem.

After I insert the second disc (I have SimCity 4 Deluxe), the game attempts to run, but it crashes. I get the blue screen of death with a stop error. I believe it says, "STOP: 0x00000024," but I may be mistaken. I can restart OK, and a message comes up asking if I want to report the error.

When I reported the error, I was sent to a Web page (http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2813?=eng). I run Windows XP, and these two downloads are only for Vista.

Can anyone identify this problem and possibly help me figure out how to fix it? I am updating Windows now. I updated my video card drivers.

I have an Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE. I have an Intel Core2 at 2.13 GHz. I have 1 gig of RAM. I have Service Pack 2.

What can I do about this? It worked before, and I haven't changed anything inside my CPU. Is there a way to make it run on one core?

I'm dumb. You'll have to be more specific. How do I run as administrator? What is that?

Hmmm... I read something somewhere on the forums regarding Dual Core processors on XP.

    Try this:

    1. Run the game if you can, then minimize it.

    2. Bring up Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del or Ctrl+Shift+Escape)

    3. Click the Processes tab

    4. Find the SimCity4.exe process

    5. Right click SimCity4.exe > Set Affinity

    6. Untick the boxes so SimCity 4 runs on only 1 CPU.

I hope this helps. I have Windows Vista and a Core 2 Duo processor, and SC4 works OK for me.

You could try searching Microsoft's site for the issue, but I personally find I never get what I'm looking for. It has to be the worst search on the Internet.

Regarding Adminstrator rights. "Run as Administrator" is a Vista feature, However, you can do something similiar in XP. Right-click the shortcut or game > Run As. Click the option "The following user" and change the user name to Adminstrator, if it exists. Problem is, you need to provide a password. If an account has no password, XP won't let you "run as" that user.

You can check if you are an administrator by gonig to Control Panel > User Accounts.

I haven't done anything yet because I'm still afraid of crashing my entire computer when I install the game.

Insert User Here, I can't do that because I can't run the game. I get the blue screen of death when it finishes installation (I don't remember if the game runs automatically upon installation), and I get the same error when I run it after restarting.

I downloaded the update from EA, so I may try installing the game (despite the crash) and installing the patch (found here: http://simcity.ea.com/update/index.php). Think that might help?
