That airfield looks very natural, nestled in the farmlands, near the county fairgrounds. It looks like a real aerial shot of a small farming town. Kudos!

The airfield looks great! Question: Was the airport asked for by the people, or did you put it in to spur business?

I was just wondering Paul, on average how long does it take you to make one update? With all the graphics and attention to detail, I would imagine a while. Hope you take some time off for the holidays! 39.gif

The Churches of Digby - Part 1

In my efforts to create as realistic a region as possible, I must concede that no city or town in the real world doesn't have a church or twenty. It's take some time for our wonderful BAT creators to come up with enough churches for me to feature them in Digby.

Churches dominate our landscape everywhere. Although we don't built them as large and as beautiful as we used to, they are still to be found everywhere. Churches in North America date from 1620 to the present day, with the largest churches being built between about 1820 and 1920. Cathedrals and the other larger churches of the European style are almost never built anymore in North America.

Church styles are of all types, and most of the churches you see here of of European influence. Then again, they were mostly BAT'ed by our European friends!

Realistically, I wish there were more of the small country type of church in the BAT exchange, as some of the churches featured here are a little large for the size of the town they are found in. Nevertheless, I'll keep my eyes open on the BAT for any new churches!

To all of you who have created any of the churches I have used, I thank you! Here is the first installment of our church visits.

First stop: Grande Forkes, which never gets enough attention!

    /idealbb/files/Spot-Grande-Forkes3.jpg

Our first aerial shot (thanks to Larry) shows where both churches are situated in the city.

    /idealbb/files/GForkes1_Churches_Aerial.jpg

Our first church is a big one...more of a cathedral than a church.

    /idealbb/files/GForkes2_Myron_Aerial1.jpg

And moving in for a closer look...

    /idealbb/files/GForkes3_Myron02.jpg

    And at night...

    /idealbb/files/GForkes4_Myron_Nite.jpg

And moving to the east, we find the second church. It's a church of the other faith...

    /idealbb/files/GForkes5_Holy_Divided.jpg

Okay, that's what's in Grande Forkes.

On to Granton, our big city.

    /idealbb/files/Spot-Granton13.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Granton1_Churches_Aerial.jpg

We'll start with the church in the west....

    /idealbb/files/Granton2_Church_Dog.jpg

It gets dark in Granton, too.

    /idealbb/files/Granton3_Church_Dog_Nite.jpg

Moving to the next church, we find the Church of the Fatter Spray Paints (say it with the emphasis on the Paints and you'll be saying it right)...

    /idealbb/files/Granton4_Spray_Paints.jpg

Then there's Hanley...don't forget Hanley, our Navy town!

    /idealbb/files/Spot---Hanley4.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Hanley1_Walter_A.jpg

Okay, so there's only one church there (not including the Navy Base chapel, which we aren't showing because it looks like a normal house)...

    /idealbb/files/Hanley2_Walter01.jpg

Another night time look at this beauty:

    /idealbb/files/Hanley3_Walter_Nite01.jpg

This one we gotta see up close, especially at night...
    /idealbb/files/Hanley4_Walter_Nite.jpg

Okay, that's Hanley, now across the channel and up the river to...

    Harford!

    /idealbb/files/Spot-Harford2.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Harford1_Divided_A1.jpg

Okay, there's only one here, too...but it's an interesting one...

    /idealbb/files/Harford2_Divided.jpg

Well, that's it for Part 1. Again, thanks to the BAT-people who made these great structures possible! Stay tuned for the second part of the Churches of Digby coming soon!

    The churches are great! 44.gif

I think it's very funny (and realistic too) that there are all the divided churches, theres always a different Christian belief, Catholic (me), protestant, Lutheran, Espicalopian (most likely spelled wrong), Presbetyrean, etc..

    Keep up the good work!

I have only a little bit of churches downloaded.I would like to know how to find some of those.

What were some of the key words you used?

    Are they on the STEX?

    Great update!

Wisla_Krakow: lewellan222 did this before in this CJ. It did say pototo, but when you called him out on it he edited his post. 2.gif

...Sorry about the quadrupal post from last time...I was having computer problems41.gif...Your churches look great. However, some of them such as the Church of Dog in Granton and St. Walter in Hanley seem large and out of place; I know this is not your fault, there simply aren't many small town churches such as the perfectly fitting Harford Divided Church 19.gif. Keep up the good work. I can never say it too little: your attention to detail is amazing.

    Yep Zagreus is right.

He's right about how big the churches are. They are large, but arean't most old churches quite big.I mean they were used for alot of things other then mass.Nowadays most churches are small so they fit in and don't stand out to much.Again in the past most churches had to stand out as a simbal of their beliefs,a landmark and sometimes as a City Hall.In most villages churches were the biggest building for miles. It showed wealth, power and prospareity of the village or city. Also were else would the graveyards be?

There's a very nice church in Resident Evil 2 which comes out on DVD today!Yay!

I bet your excited Zagreus since you have the Unbriela Logo as your avatar.

Keep up the updates there awsome!!

Great update to a great journal! Question: If the Church of Latter Day Saints...err...Fatter Spray Paints was built in 1844, why does it have the year 1870 in big numbers on the front?

Now that the city has an airport, how do you expect or want this small farming town to react? (Sorry with all the questions, but I had to think of something to fill in the posts!)

I really don't pop in here as much as I should. Yet another fantastic update, and humorous, too. As a churchgoer myself, and with there being three other churches of different denominations than the one I attend within walking distance of mine, It's humorous to see the names you've come up with.

The Churches of Digby - Part 2

Now we continue with our look at the churches of Digby...next stop, Lancaster.

    /idealbb/files/Spot---Lanc_Only5.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Lancaster_Edmund_A.jpg

Yup, another large cathedral. Who PAID for these things when they were built?!

    /idealbb/files/Lancaster_St_Edmund.jpg

Across Hampton Strait from Lancaster is? You guessed it...Wentworth!

    /idealbb/files/Spot_Wentworth_Only.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Wentworth_Howard_A.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Wentworth_St_Howard011.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Wentworth_St_Howard02.jpg

And now to Morrison. We haven't been to Morrison in a while. Remember the unfinished square in the center of the town? Well, the church is right beside that. And no, they haven't done anything with the square (town council is still undecided...)

    /idealbb/files/Spot-Map-Morrison1.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Morrison_BetterT_A.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Morrison_Better_Taste011.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Morrison-Better_Taste_Nite.jpg

    And now to Warrington...

    /idealbb/files/Spot-Warrington3.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Warrington_Latecomers_A1.jpg

I'll bet a lot of you can relate to this church. I bet a lot of you, if you go to church at all, would pick this one.

    /idealbb/files/Warrington_Latecomers01.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Warrington_Latecomers_Nite.jpg

    Now to Whetherford...

    /idealbb/files/Spot---Whetherford4.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Whetherford_Seymore_A.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Whetherford_St_Seymore01.jpg

    /idealbb/files/Whetherford_St_Seymore_Nite1.jpg

And those are some of the churches in Digby!

Stay tuned next for some building...just regular expansion. After all, Digby will never need any highways if it doesn't grow...

Wow, Paul! -- I'm not a frequent commenter, and not usually a wow-sayer either.  But, wow, I really love these church updates. Besides showcasing virtually every custom church on the exchange... Is it just me or is this the funniest, most ironic update so far in Digby?

Keep the small town rollin'! 44.gif

I think the Church of Latecomers is in my town. They always start church 5 minutes late on purpose for those late people...

Amazing work lewellan222. Easily this is one of the best CJ's on ST. 40.gif
