^^^ 100% agreement. Your only post in this amazing CJ. Welcome to Simtropolis!

I don't think lewellan222 is going to build this to be a metropolis anytime soon, probably never, but let's keep our hopes up!

    Power Usage in Digby

Alright, we've finally made it to the stage where we'll talk a little bit about power. The electrical kind, not the other!

Since it is 1954 (you always know the date in Digby by deducting 50 years from our current date)...since it is 1954, Digby is powered by coal. Coal is a very common, if not messy, source of power.

The 58 towns, cities, and counties of Digby Region are powered by 14 locations. There are also 14 counties that currently have no power at all, as they are in the mountains and very remote.

Normally, power provided by one county is moved, or sold in a neighbour deal, to an adjacent county. However, sometimes power is bought and resold down the line to reach further counties.

    Power Map
The following graphic shows power movement throughout the region. I know it's busy, but there is a lot of power being moved around the region!

    /idealbb/files/Digby-Power-Map01.jpg

The /idealbb/files/CoalSymbol.jpg indicated any coals plants (there is a little C there if you didn't notice), while the /idealbb/files/WindSymbol.jpg shows us where the windmills are located. Windmills are disliked by a lot of people because they spoil the landscape.

The arrows in the map above denote the movement of power from those counties or cities that produce it. The cost per 1,000 MWh's of power is anywhere from

I've always thought of compiling a map like that just I could visualize (and not be confused by) the power deals in my regions.  Great job as always, I can never seem to get over your graphics!

Ooooh. Which building will make it as your new city council building? 42.gif

Your photo taking skills are also amazing. That shot with the coal mine makes it not out of place. Keep it up!

    New Municipal Building for Lancaster-Wentworth?

Well, it looks like things are picking up in the twin cities. This time they are thinking of replacing the old town hall, which is now serving BOTH cities due to their amalgamation, with a totally new structure.

I've been following this since the earlier pages without making a comment, because I felt I could only repeat  what has been said many times before. Your excellent graphics (most recent example, the power map),  funny stories and descriptions, make this the best-presented journal to date. Combined with  -- may I say  -- your somwwhat purist approach to the game, this makes Digby a class of its own.  So I think I'll propose a new cateory in the Golden Llama awards and nominate Digby for the Most Classic Jounal ever.

[Edit: actually, why not the predefined Most Unique journal?] Post edit: no it deserves its own category.

Everyone keeps saying I cannot wait untill skyscrapers, and I hope he turns it into a metropolis. In my opinion, that totally disagrees with the entire feel to the 20 pages of this CJ. This Cj has been an amazing and extremely detailed tale of small towns, and their interations, th's why I think makes this CJ so special and great. If you want a metropolis CJ, look at just about every other CJ out there.

Ahh I can hear the Bingles now - Phil, that building is an eyesore!  It sticks out like a sore thumb!

Kinda like what people thought of the Empire State Building in the 30's...

Can't wait to see what it is!

While We're Waiting for the New Lancaster Municipal Building...

I would like to thank the many of you who have taken the time to read through the Digby Journal, and for posting here with your kind comments or sending me private messages. Indeed, the knowledge that so many of you are enjoying my nonsense is what keeps me coming back. The open-ended nature of the SimCity4 simulator and the endless possibilities brought forward with the BAT make this journal possible.

I would just like to reiterate a few things I said before, as there seem to be some new readers.

Digby was designed to use regional play to the maximum, so the many towns and cities there are unavoidably intertwined. I have designed the journal to move around the region in a constant motion so that readers might get a feel that there is a living, breathing series of interconnected communities there.

It's true, right now Digby has a very white bread feel about it. There is little crime, people gripe about minor issues, and there is a true sense of that middle America (or middle-Canada) to it. This will eventually change. I don't mean that any drastic will happen, but you'll see things change as the cities grow.

    Skyscrapers?
Well, eventually there will likely be something along that line. But if the current pace of the journal is any indication, you can imagine how far off that might be.

Don't forget, to date I have not zoned ANY high-density areas in any of the cities. I haven't even seen a skyscraper in this game yet, and I don't have any other regions since Digby is my first and only!...I still have not laid a single tile of highway, subway, or anything of that nature. I have not yet had to worry about traffic or crime. I am still exploring the game!

    Future Growth
Growth, as I mentioned before, will occur in a vacuum of sorts. Consider that if I place a large building in a style that is from BEFORE the 1950's, it would stand to reason that the said structure must have already been there throughout this journal. Since you have seen most of the cities already, you'll have to suspend your disbelief when new old structures appear. This will be quite evident during the next project (The Churches of Digby) which will contain structures that would have been built a century before the time of our story!

Well, enough chat! Let's get back to the journal. And thanks again to everyone, and I apologize to you if it seems I am ignoring your posts...I promise I read, ponder, and appreciate each one!

Oh, and I keep meaning to mention this: Lewellan222 is just an online name I use for everything; it's hard to spell and remember...please just call me Paul !

Paul 5.gif You have really done a wonderful job with this journal. It never ceases to amaze me!

I look forward to the Churches of Digby as well as further presentations by Fillmore & Associates Architects concerning this landmark building of the twin cities.

    Keep it up! 44.gif
