Mass Transit Confusion...Sad face...

First and longest question:

I have never been able to figure out if there is a "best" way to design a subway system. I have two ideas, and I was wondering if you guys have been able to notice a difference between the two. The first is very similar to real cities. You place differeny subway lines , some of them intersecting and serving sort of as transfer points. In the end the system looks sort of like a spider (or group of spiders), where people don't necessarily go from A to B, but must pass through C to reach B. The other system involves a sort of grid Let's say that I have nine subway sations that are placed in a square-ish arrangement, three rows of three, it doesn't matter how far apart, like so:

123

456

789

I then connect each station to each adjacent station. For example, 1 is connected to 2 and 4, 8 is connected to 5, 7 and 9, and so on.

So, in terms of travel time and usage by the Sim population, which of those is more effecient? I realize that the second example is a bit of a waste of money, but let us assume that money is not an issue in this case.

Second question (much shorter):

Does the number of stops in a mass transit system effect the speed of the system? Consider this example:

Station A and Station B are 50 squares apart via subway. There are no stations in between. Lets say it takes 100 seconds to travel that distance.

Now assume that there are 8 stations in between A and B. Does the time to get from A to B increase, or does it stay the same?

Third:

With the most recent RoadTopMassTransit mod, buildings that are one square wide and face the roadtop station have a "No Road" zot above them and they are eventually abandoned. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way around this?

Final question:

Do monorails need to be built in a circuit, or can they be built in a line? I tried both, but nobody uses it either way. I guess that means I don't really need a monorail, but I would just like to know for the heck of it. 4.gif

Thank you for your help.

If your lots face <> have the buses on the side streets where no lots face. (I know it bites but I saw this issue and was like, "Aw man, that defeats the whole purpose of having roadtop buses...

2) I've asked this question before and never got an answer.  Still don't know the answer to this.

3) There is a couple of ways around it - A) use the RTMT stations that straddle intersections, I do this routinely for roads; B) put the RTMT stations on the zone square directly adjacent to an intersection - if the people can get out the side of their yard, on the other street, that works;  C) eventually, most lots are more than 1 square wide, and you can place some more stations if you really want to.

Regarding the question about the number of stops... According to this post, the number of stops does not affect the commute time along a particular route. That kind of makes sense (at least for the game) since, if it did, Sims would always want to drive because that would be a non-stop route. So it sounds like going from A to B to C to D would not take any longer than going straight from A to D.
