I tried searching for this, couldn't find anything.

Is anyone using Blender to model buidlings? I just picked up SimCity 4 Deluxe (finally went universal on the mac) and would like to try my hand at modeling, only 3DsMax is not available for the Mac.

Is Blender possible? Any tips how to make buildings fit with the stock buildings in game?

Any advise / links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Unless there is a BAT 2 Blender conversion program, which I'm not aware of, you'll still have to stick with exporting your model from Blender into the standard Simcity BAT.

You could use blender but make sure you export your building as a 3DS File so you can then import it in GMax ( This pogram puts your model into a usable format for Simcity4)

GMax is availible from http://www.turbosquid.com/

The only way to make BATs for Simcity in a Mac is to install Windows on your machine. Sorry this is the only way.

well; to put it in a nutshell BAT (building Architect Tool) is just a set of scripts automation rendering procedures. It is written in proprietary scripting language called MaxScript. GMAX is a somewhat simplified version of MAX4 from which most of the UI has been removed, while the actual functionality had remain there This allows to use MaxScript to call on that functionality , as BAT does.

All that means that, in a way, that the actual process could be totally platform and package independent. Script are utilising the most standart procedures available in ANY 3D modeling software be it Blender, Maya, Modo etc. It all boils down to figuring the steps and recreating them. And here comes more complicated part - automating certain actions to make it not overly time consuming. So all that it calls for is a certain knowledge of any scripting language compatible with target 3D application.

I can give a step-by-step list of procedures and assist in any other way I can to anyone who would undertake the endeavor of creating such a script! May be one very much simplified, as many of the features of original BAT are out of date and could be left behind.

To be honest I don't think there is anyone left here with the capability to do it. It might be worth asking at this site for assistance or something I guess: http://www.scriptspot.com/ Apparently it's a whole community dedicated to max scripts.
