well i hope this is the real simcity 5 they are mentioning...b/c that was rediculous what we got.....

and as far as i'm concerned...if tilted mill is on the project - they better have learned from the mistakes of socieities and make something that works on most computers that meet or even succeed the requirements.....or they better get someone else do the job..... perhaps maxis again?

They surely learned some things I hope.... If it weren't for the graphics of simcity societies I would think that simcity 4 would be the new game if I was a new gamer.

Whhhhooooo! Now I can play Sim City on my Wii! How exciting is that!?!. . .

. . .

. . .

Though, I took a look at the images; well, the thumbnails since the images wouldn't load full size, and noticed a curved road in one of those pictures. . .

Interesting ... Ok, I understand why people might be upset, but we are not without possibilities yet.

First, New expansions are still coming in for Societies, so they aren't finished developing that game yet, releasing SC5 while releasing expansions for a similar game is economic suicide.

Second, Simcity Creator has a very familiar Maxis feel to me in terms of the interface and style overall so It could be in-house developed, and yes probably using SC3K as a base but still looking for fun in the game and not just driving relentlessly down the realism track (possibly the only good argument for even trying SCS in the first place). I know there are a lot of you out there that are looking for more realism, and I completely understand, but not at the expense of gameplay. Which leads me into the marketing angle, opening up the player base for a game like this is difficult, exemplified by the sheer weight of anger that SCS took (rightly or not) and the perceptions of the game in the marketplace built up over (lets face it) decades. Releasing a game for the two Nintendo consoles makes a bit of sense, they can test a new idea or approach (ie. looking for 'the fun' in particular) without treading on the toes of what is already out there in SCS, all really good moves in researching the markets and making a tidy profit on the way.

So what does it all mean? Well, it could mean anything. It depends on EA really, if Maxis can prove one or all the concepts for widening the play base, they might try to incorporate those concepts into one game while still making forward progress on obtaining a certain amount of realism, the target being a game that is realistic to the eye, but still has a sense of fun that can be enjoyed by a wide audience. Alternatively they could just promote one of the ideas from SCS or SC Creator and start a new development path, which will be met by the appropriate amount of grumbling from the existing player base. All that we can really say is be patient, you never know whats around the corner.

Looks decent. Simcity 3000 in full 3d with curved roads. In fact sounds great if that's the case.

It look like a mix of SimCity 4 and SimCity Societies but I think it's a SimCity "lite".

Maybe because it's a Wii/DS version I'm not impressed by this one.

Well, most people predicted Simcity Societies was going to be terrible just by looking at the first screenshot.

Okay, I started digging into this one, to see what it really is about. Not much on it yet.

Screenshots do load now at that link posted above.

This is exactly what you think it is.  It is a SimCity Lite version. A complete re-hash of all things SimCity3 and 4, minus what will NOT fit on the DS version. Nothing new to add.

This is actually a cash-in by EA Games, on the Wii craze. They are simply taking one aspect of SC(create and destroy cities) and using that to gain some of the Wii market share.

THere may be more to this later, but from the screenies this is all there is so far. I do see a hint to viewing lots independently. Like in a list or something. I do not realistically see us creating custom content on our DS's however. lol.

DS and Wii= Nintendo partner with EA on SC franchise.

Side note:

I can assure you all, that someone who works for EA visits Simtropolis, at least occasionally. They see us, they hear us, so why do they ignore us?

We are a very small portion of EA's massive audience.

Would an EA rep like to comment here please? I am currently: Laughing alot right now

Yep and that is usually the case. Not always, but very common.

Tilted Mill thought they had an untapped market of gamers, that would not play SC4 because of it's difficult format. That was a grave error. The market for city building is already tapped and the general portion of that is US! Right here at Simtrop. Please us and sell 1,500,000 copies. experiment and change on a tried and true method and style on gaming; and sell alot less copies.

EDIT add in: ( because although I posted this elsewhere and it shows in the topic, I've made the last comment, my comment is not there?)

Simulation gamers want realistic simulations with realistic objectives and goals.

Cities. railroads, malls, rollercoasters, zoos. They may not be huge selling game scenerios, but they must simulate realism. Cities are the most diverse prospect for simulation gaming and therefore, the most likely succesful simulation. One thing more diverse and open than a city simulation? A universe simulation. Oh, I guess that would be Spore. 3.gif

SCS is not even close to objective or realistic. I bought it, like I promised the developers I would do so. Plus my three girls all wanted to try it out. well, 4 out 4 hated it, so I sold it to a co-worker for ten bucks. Yay!! Not a total loss anyway.

THis is ludicrious?? My comments are being edited by someone else as I post them? No wrnings? I did nothing wrong. This is weird.

I love that it is for Wii(don't get me wrong,PC is great also) but it looks badly textured and I dunno...It just seems cheaply made.

Very odd. It's some kind of sabotage, either from EA or from some renegade computer expert criminal.

Well, quite true. Now, I wasn't one to personally go 'OMG, this sucks!' at the first screenshots, I waited until they told us it was a game with nothing that made Sim City special. For this game, I look at it as being more on the right path, if not everything we hoped for. After all, it is a console target. Also, with a release date of September, they most likely had started development of this game *before* the release of Societies, and possibly before the backlash began. Another thing I find interesting, is that as a Nintendo fanboy (well, more ex-, I wasn't planning on buying a Wii myself), this is not the first time a "port" of SC3000 was supposed to come to a Nintendo console. I'm not sure if anyone else recalls this, but way back in the days of the N64, there was an add-on unit announced, called the DD. For the N64 DD a version of SC3000 was announced, and put into development, and, it was supposed to be full 3d! Now, it never happened if I recall correctly, partly do to the failure of the DD in the market. Which is funny that NOW EA is bringing a souped up SC3000 to the market, one with curved roads. . .

Sim City Creator so far wins my award for Worst Graphics Ever in a Wii game. It looks like a re-release of SC4 vanilla with poorly done 3D. On the bright side, it looks much more SC-like than Societies did.
