I'm having a problem the problem is this:  I go in and start the city and I put the speed on cheetah speed and the days and years are going slow what should I do about this I already reinstalled the game several times but that didn't work.  Sometimes the days and years stop like it's frozen what I have to do is put the game on pause and than turtle than on rhino than on cheetah but the speed stays on turtle what should I do about this. Thank you Paul

The problem you are facing often happens when you city gets large. Lower the detail level, lower the amount of cars and sims to the lowest, close any programs that is running while you are playing the game, drop down the second fastest speed or lower, run a virus scan (computer infections sometimes slow down the computer), do disk cleanup, and do disk defragmenter. If the problem continues, exit out of the city and reload it, then drop it to the fastest speed or lower and don't set the speed to the max.

Try running on Rhino speed instead of Cheetah.  The highest speed may not be giving the simulator enough time to make everything happen at that rate.  I only use it for quick, local effects.

I have kind of the same problem, but it only happens in one of my city tiles, do you think a building might cause this effect?? I dont know, I'm not sure, but my other city tiles are big also and they dont have any troubles with speed, it's only that city tile the one with it. And my computer is really fast, any theories? (Intel Centrino duo, 2 gb ram, 120 gb, vista)

The speed of the game depends on the looping structure in the program.  If you have many objects (buildings, population, street network) each has to be looked at during each pass of the various simulation loops that are multi-tasked, and they must rendezvous at some point.  The rendezvous code will wait for all expected loops to terminate.  As the number of objects in the program increases, the longer the loops take.

I never run on cheetah except for short developmental bursts.  Generally I run rhino because I have a relatively slow CPU (2.0 GHz Athlon) and only 1GB of memory.  Usually, things are OK, but when my population gets large, and there are many buildings, I do get considerable lag.  After this it becomes a matter of patience.
