I don't get it, my specs are fine, my drivers are updated, but the game still crashes every 10 minutes or so.. it doesn't even give me an error message - help!

How big is your Plugins Folder?

Well, if you have a lot of files and a very unorganized plug-ins folder, it can happen randomly at any time. The only way to solve the problem is to extract every file and see what is causing the problem. And you should take a look at the following two threads:

Intel Core 2 Quad processor 2.40GHz, 3070MB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce 8600GS display, running on Windows Vista...

Gonna try getting rid of all the plugins now. see if it works...

What is hard drive space and what is the CPU?

Have you cleaned out your computer? Does your computer feel hot when you play Simcity 4? Remember, Simcity 4 causes the CPU to overheat and if your hard drive is close to the hot spot, your computer hard drive has a higher chance of dying sooner than hard drives that are located far away from the CPU. To find the CPU, run some programs and keep the programs busy. The CPU is the heart and the hottest part of the computer is it is being used frequently.

It's about three quarters free, and I don't actually know what my CPU is! It's just really annoying, it doesn't even tell me the nature of the error so I can do something about it...

Sorry, should have made it clearer, I'm just playing normally, then the game locks up for a few seconds, and exits to the desktop - I can't repeat it, it just happens randomly every 10-20 minutes maybe.

Sounds exactly like what I'm having. Same OS, same video card, just a bit less ram and different cpu. I get about 10-15 minutes then it dies. Usually it accompanied by explorer crashing, cpu shooting up to max, lock ups, search system failure, or "resource handler" shutdown, a whole load of fun things. I use the plugin manager and know my way around things. I have a strong feeling that it may be a plugin problem. I've even tried isolating vista by running it in xp computability mode.

Just thought I'd throw it out there.

I'll be looking into my problem within the next few days and report back with what I find.
